Don't get me wrong, I like skits etc, but they are the window dressing for actual presentation of the awards.
Another advantage of having multiple artists involved is that its exciting to wait and see what each of them will come up with to present the awards, see if they draw pictures of my characters if I am nominated etc. Betwee nskits, these awards were often just argon saying "here are the nominations" and a list of banners. I think with different people making them you get to see them presented in more varied and creative ways.
Except for "Beth" I didn't know the songs either. But done judiciously, and technically as part of a skit (like Joe loosing his arm), they can work. At least I have to tell myself that, since I've got two songs coming up nearly back to back in my comic.
And I watch the award shows easily as much for the skits/musical numbers as I do the awards. I can just read about the awards the next morning if that's all I cared about.
I....I feel kinda bad saying this....
But I thought the musical numbers were kinda dumb.
I can't hear the music and I didn't know the songs in question.
Even if I had known them, its just reading someone recite the lyrics. I can't rock out to tunes I can't hear.
Listening to music without sound doesn't work.
Skits and things are okay, but ultimately I come to an award show to see who won awards. Everything else is pretty secondary.
The DD awards could benefit from more organization, and a bit more lead time getting things set up. And I really liked the "extras" from last year's awards, and think that elements like that, done as either the parody skits that the MTV movie awards, or like the "musical numbers" here, would be a fun addition. But I also agree that the community aspect is the key part of the DD awards, and needs to not only stay but be encouraged.
I like the DD awards the way they are.
Having pages done by different users encourages everyone to get involved and take part. It's a community thing, so the more people take part the better.
I like that these awards do things differently, variety is nice, but the idea of trying to replace the normal awards or make them more like these awards seems a bad idea.
While I don't disagree on the common theme issue (the time one is a given), if you, say, make everyone use the same "set"... some artist may not have the resources to reproduce it (my 3D modeling skills suck, for example, so I couldn't reproduce the set you used here)
Y'know what, this conversation belongs in the DD awards forum, even if the 2011 DD awards aren't done yet, it's never too early to look to 2012
We will make a permanent, common theme. Advanced scheduling, Roy, plus I'd force a deadline to get the pages to you so you can assemble them. We can bring all these details to the table and cast them in iron shortly.
the only problems i have with user drawn award pages is one it takes forever to assemble those pages, two they don't have a comon theme to them.of course i several ideas to deal with this issue. yes, i have already thought about these issues. a good villain is always one step ahead.kazinga! the real question at hand is who will host? joe zombie or dr. argon? you guys decide.
Hey, as long as you guys don't steamroller over some elements (Like slashing the category list, and eliminating user presentation pages. I kinda think the latter especially is part of the charm of the DD awards) I think it's a great idea.
They could be. Niccea only stepped in when it was evident that JNP wasn't coming back any time soon, and people still wanted the DD awards, so I think she's feeling overwhelmed by it all. And the DD awards could use some of the elements from this show. But I also think that there is room for more than one awards comic.
well then, to me my judges!!!! we have just stolen the official drunk duck awards next year! and for gods sake will somebody pq harkovast and tell him now.of course doc might be pissed about this! pam. please have skoolmunkee announce this on the news as soon as possible.
Then we shall seize it by storm. >:D Make no mistake, Niccea is doing a wonderful job so far, but with the right people working as a team, the awards could be so much bigger and better! It needs a permanent schedule and advance planning. We'll see where things go from here.
@Roy - You do realize that the DD awards are user run, right? The only reason a mod is in charge this year is because JNP is protesting the changes here at the Duck, and Niccea decided to give it a try. Someone else will probably take it over next year. Skool and Ozone have nothing to do with the DD awards.
So you don't have to convince management, you have to convince everyone else.
oopppss! my bad! i forgot to mention that bidding starts at $10,000 ! the city that host the awards will recive multiple ads during the awards show, how great would that be for tourist to see that?
you should have seen this coming! with the zombies being very popular at halloween it was the right way to go. will the main stage be a grave yard or a zombie ravaged city, who knows.
after many long hours of deep thought and conversations dr. argon has decided to pass on next years awards but he has hand picked joe to take his place. he might do a guest spot or he might not. i don't know what else to tell you other than villains hate to repeat what they have done in the past. could this turn into the main dd awards? who knows? that is up to dd. if they are interested they know how to get in touch.

I am a Graphic Design manager, dammit, I can put the scheduling and deadlines together! Shall we make a presentation template that can be downloaded?

It shall be done, Evil Master. Let me get another cup of coffee, and I'll consult with Niccea and Skoolmunkee. :)
