You think that one pistol will be enough? Or is it just so as not to feel so helpless? Germans used armored halftracks with two flame projectors to set Russian villages aflame. (Sdkfz, 251/16) A variant of the Pzkpfw III tank had its main gun replaced by a flamethrower and used in the suppression of the Warsaw uprising. The Germans invented flamethrower in WWI.

I think it's just a token gesture really. They hadn't really given Hunter any weapons until then as he was someone they were hiding. Now he's becoming someone that stands shoulder to shoulder with them- hence he gets a gun.
