i'm gonna take it as the author's right to tell the story in their own way. hell, if you can accept that aliens are coming to earth, you can accept this other vision of what happened hundreds of years ago. It could be Earth 2 or 3 for all we know. Regardless, the conversation is fun and the comic is getting people to talk. it's doing it's job.
Regardless of content, the massacres of the natives that resulted by such a statement was very much a fact. Truth being, you are looking at semantics rather than the full picture.
And, of course, the natives were NOT innocent, they harmed the colonizers in awful ways as well. But, it was rightfully their land to protect, just as Americans can use that defense for atrocities in the Middle East (an argument I accept fully).
Therefore, to end this claim, the quote may be out of context but it is very much appropriate for the mindset of the invaders and colonizers.
Love the book, but I have to take you to task on your Declaration quote. That's taking it a bit out of context, don't you think? The quote, when read in context is a complaint that King George was instigating rebellion among the more savage tribes on the borders as a way of keeping the unruly American colonists in line. I just get tired of the "America was founded by a bunch of mean white guys who were looking to kill all the brown people " mindset. I'm not saying the comparison between the aliens and the colonists is invalid, I actually think it's rather clever, I just think the quote is taken out of place.

Nice juxtaposition of settlers and aliens here.
