Keep Walking

Remember back in the day when I updated nearly every week? Sometimes twice? Those were good times. Good times.
Lately there's been other things competing for my attention, not the least of which is trying to find a new job– much tougher than it should be because I'm not actually qualified for anything so I've been applying for everything. Also there's that comics/graphic novel certificate program that I thought I'd have to withdraw from but ended up getting admitted on scholarship because of my years of volunteer work which is pretty awesome!
Although it might not seem like from here I've been drawing more than I think I ever have in my life, which means that updates are probably going to be kind of sporadic.
Anyway, thanks for bearing with me, you guys are great!

replies:
@usedbooks: Yeah, I can sort of see the resemblance now.
As for if Madeline snaps– I can't say I'd entirely blame her.
@Peipei: Honestly, who can say?
@magickmaker: Yeah, maybe Mr. Abusive Parent will get his due in the end.
@Zephyrion: Thanks!
@amanda: My concern about portraying abuse and looking like a jerk has more to do with the fact that there's so many ways that I could look like a jerk.
There's the obvious reasons, like if it's shown insensitively it can marginalize the plight of victims or worse suggest that I condone that sort of behavior. Or even if it is shown with sensitively it could be thought as introducing overblown melodrama. I'm just glad that it doesn't look like I scared off any readers yet!
@khard and BS Dude: Thanks!
@oldguy: Actually, in a way I feel that it is relevant for Madeline's character. From what's been shown of Madeline she's very cynical and I think this serves to show reasons as to why.
@Trevor: No prob. Let me know how that turns out. I'm doing OK, I've been drawing more than ever yet it feels like I'm getting less done. So I'm a bit overwhelmed but in a good way if that makes any sense.
@JNP: Like I said to Amanda, there's more than one way to look like a jerk by showing abuse in a comic– or at the very least a bad writer. I will admit the part of my paranoia could be reacting to some bad comics that I've read over the years, which at their worst seem to fetishize abuse. So I'm going to be in an issue of Devon Legacy? …Cool?

*knight ... remember when I said we need an edit button? -_-

Bah, I fetishize everything. Screw it! See, I did it again! XD Seriously though, I don't think you should worry about that stuff. Just make your comic how you like without holding back (much). Someone somewhere has a fetish for something that you are doing. And the rational folks won't really think about it much unless you mention it - which you did Oh noes =p @page: As much of a night in shining armor mentality that I have, I don't think I would want to get with a girl attached to that much drama. Not unless we planned to move to another country of thought of a way to off her old man. I hope you have luck finding a job btw :)

Lame ass alcoholic dad. Good page, though. Glad to see you're still in the game.

I can totally relate to that. I'm juggling two web comic series (one that updates twice per week), plus all of the projects on top of that, plus having self-published a book that's only going to pay for itself if I take it out into the world and sell it myself. Which means organizing convention appearances and speaking engagements. Which eats up even more time. So yes, I totally know what you're talking about here. I'm doing so much more, but it feels like I'm not doing nearly enough.

Well, I was going to tell you about the Post-Apocalyptic Steampunk Dance Party in the comments, but you caught me on the messenger first =D I wonder how Madeline's mom feels about this particular situation.

Yaaaay! Another update xD! I've been waiting for so long x.x. So worth the wait tho :p. Madeline's dad sucks. She should just run away with Dee or something xD. I wonder what she did that pissed him off so much x.x. It couldn't have been that bad. I agree with Used on police locking this guy up D:.

Oh dear, job hunting. I'm (unfortunately) very experienced at that. Unfortunately, that experience can't really spruce up one's resume. -_- Man, Madeline's dad... A beer, a wife-beater, and suspenders?! I'm surprised he's wearing shoes and not cleaning his shotgun. The police should really start profiling for domestic crimes.
