This is almost entirely from a script by Neil, and drawn by myself. If you think I'm going to have MM visit the HUniverse, and not meet up with her old… Friend? Teammate? Annoyance? (Take your pick) …Dasien, you're crazy. But there is a method to our madness. Dasien will in turn lead to…
Well, you'll see.
This is also an extra for Dasien fans, who haven't been able to see new strips with Dasien and Parker for a while, due to Neil's hectic schedule.
Comments from Neil:
"When I was a young'un, I used to watch WKRP In Cincinnati, and I watched that show, because I had a crush on one of the most beautiful women on TV. Yes, readers. Jan Smithers.
"Wait, WHAT!? Who did you think I was going to say? Loni Anderson?!?!! Get outta here!
“Jan Smithers' character Bailey was very much the prototype for Parker Lynn Bailey. And when Al asked me what real life reference he should use to illustrate Parker in today's comic, I fell all over myself to tell him all about my goddess Jan Smithers.”
Next Thursday…more interdimensional character interaction.
godofWar: Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the HU. Remember, I did that Bombshell/Commander story for HU Chronicles. But this is a weird time for them, a more authoritarian tone, during the manhunts for Energize and leading up to the splitting off of Heroes Alliance. If it's not "Dark Reign" for them, still, the Commander is steering them to a more heavy-handed time. Nemesis has been inducted, they think one of their founding members, Energize, is a criminal---they're a little more suspicious, a little less accepting right now.
Mindmistress got there at the wrong phase in their history, and her first impression wasn't great. Hence the "fascists". It's not literal, it's hyperbole. The same way one might call a heavy-handed policeman a "nazi" if you're exasperated.
She can't help but compare them to another superhero organizaton...ahhh, but we're leading up to that.
Also, the idea of an organization she has her doubts about having the silver sphere to summon interdimensional help doesn't sit well with her, either.
@God of War
I think it's because HU immediately regarded MM as an hostile intruder instead of first asking what she was doing in their HQ. MM clearly didn't like not getting the benefit of the doubt.
MM escaped through the duct, plugged in the internet for that reality, and looked up journalists named Michelle Knight, crossreferencing it for the city Dasien appeared in. After an incredulous, "She doesn't disguise her FACE?" she used the catwalk to go to Michelle Knight's current address. She probably did several jumps. She's used to Vicki doing informational legwork for her, and there is no Vicki in this reality.
This just occurs to me... what floor of the building are they on? I presume it's near the top as that (based on illustration of the building in frame 1 of the previous page) is the only area that appears to have a ledge for MM to stand on;
I goofed. There should be balconies on the windows, but I just completely wasn't thinking about that when I drew the building. I'd rather assume that it's not the top floor. Das isn't Oprah. She's just a writer.
...plus, did MM use her catwalk to travel the "800 miles" from HU HQ and appear on the ledge? She got there pretty quick but I thought the catwalk was for interdimensional travel...? Why not use it to appear inside Das' apartment?
That just wouldn't be polite. Das could be in bed, naked, being intimate; all sorts of things. Better to knock and allow Das to be presentable. Or put on her costume.
As far as traveling, yeah, I just assumed it was the catwalk. Although, some time HAS passed, and that may not be particularly obvious. Mindmistress escaped into the duct work and that was the last anyone had seen of her at HU HQ. It probably took her... a moderate amount of time to track down Dasien, and in the meantime, someone else may have caught up with them as well.
You'll just have to wait and see.
Mindmistress uses the cat walk for distance travel fairly often. As I recall, she described it as "A short walk to anywhere there's another mind". I guess Vicki (the AI) counts too. She could use it to go to the middle of no where since there's animal life, but not to the moon since there's no life there. Or to travel dimensions.

Also, I like that the cat cat is still on the lounge, nice touch in tag-team artistry!
Also, I had a few notes here about the dialogue. I realize that Parker's initial response to Mindmistress' name is a little weird. "I'll never make fun of your [Dasien's] name again." That's what we like to call "an aside" or an under-the-breath comment. Although, Parker is not subtle enough to actually say things under her breath, so she just comes right out and says it. But I thought it would be funny if Parker, mere moments after letting this woman in, is already on her case about the name, and then has the butt in again when nobody acknowledged her first quip. It's not laugh-out-loud hilarious, but it's there to make you smile. It's one of those things where the attitude is funny, if not necessarily the line.
I love characters that are self-amused and dead-pan in their delivery. Not only is this a great trait in Parker but in Mindmistress as well.
I also like the differences in terminologies. Das says that Double-M is from a different Earth. Double-M says "different reality". Again, this is something we tried to keep consistent in Crossoverlord, where each character carried with them their own manner of speaking, as well as different terms that mean generally the same thing.
By the way, I was a little late on the draw last week, so if anyone is scratching their heads about how we got here, you might want to take a step back a page.
Well, have friends that can be annoying, plus once you hug someone, unless they pull an unbelievably assholish move, then you are automatically friends.

I see MM is using the traditional superhero entrance.

Neilsama at 4:12PM, Dec. 21, 2010
No, no... I was using the "it's a cartoon" excuse to not explain why nobody's shooed the cat off the couch.
dwrean at 2:30PM, Dec. 21, 2010
also, that doesnt look anything like tom. what kind of mutant cartoon cat is that?
dwrean at 2:28PM, Dec. 21, 2010
