This was a lot of fun to do, it's certainly the most aggressively pink page I have ever drawn! I don't think Yuuki needs any introduction - if you've been following since the start of this little adventure you'd know that everyone's favorite Valkyrie has been searching high and low for Loki's daughter Hel. And here s/he is - synchronicity or what? BTW, in composing the first panel I drew inspiration for all the goons flying through the air from the splash page of Secret Six #31. It's not something I usually do but couldn't resist in this instance.
This is my first time drawing Yuuki and Captain Perfect - it's one of the interesting challenges of working on a crossover/team-up like this… depicting other artist's characters in my own style while remaining faithful to their established look. Also, I don't know if it has previously been mentioned but the goons were designed by The Red Death - an interesting look to work with… and heaps of fun to beat up!
Because Thor WAS so awesome your browser had to say it twice. But lest we get distracted by discussion of another Asgardian... thanks for all the feedback and comments guys! Glad you liked the page.
Actually, no they aren't a type of reaper. At least not in mythology. Valkyrie walk the battlefield, selecting those who have already died who are worthy of entering Valhalla. But the thing is, the person has to have died or be dying to begin with. The unworthy automatically belong to Hel. Hence the term 'chooser of the dead'. It's an interesting distinction. Once someone is already dead, they decide the fate. The grim reaper however is the one who actually ends a life. Gods of death themselves don't end lives either. They personify it.
And the valkyrie in Yuukie's reality don't serve as choosers of the dead either. His/Her job is protector. So (s)he's even further from being a reaper.
Remember, Valkyries are a type of Reaper as well, so they bad guys may try for her.
I would love to see who can be the more psycotic Valkyrie, Yuuki when s/he is pissed, or Sally from Life and Death.
Chalk it up to artistic differences. Red eyes usually mean intense anger in some comics. In Yuuki's it may mean something beyond that. It's best not to worry too much about the consistency here in contrast with Kittyhawk's work. The guys try to keep it as close as possible, but only Kittyhawk knows all of the intricacies.
quick question, why are her eyes red, that has only happened when she lost control after getting pretty badly beat. she sorta blacks out during which time too, though this might be later on when she learns to control such things.
you drew her pretty darn good, everything seems to be where it is supposed to be (i mean clothing, hair, stuff like that, not gutter thought type stuff). she looks tuff, which is a bit different from how i normally see her done, definitely not just a woman template wearing yuuki's clothes. the shoulders look strong, which is often not done even for women who are drawn and supposed to be strong (generally they just add some muscle). it fits yuuki quite nicely, mainly since you hit the few points that are accentuated in kittyhawk's drawings and that usually are lost in translation. good page, though i am not really surprised that it is good, just what i find good about it.
love the first panel, anyway that drawing magic stufff kinda remind me of the slayers anime.
But if Hodoo draws too much magic from yuki doesnt she risk to be weakened??
Yuuki's arrival left no disappointment... far from! :D
One of the best set-up action filled pages so far, and considering what we have been through, that says a lot!
Go get them Yuuki! :p
Right. A sorcerer taps into the mystical power of other beings. Dr. Strange calls on the Vashanti or Cytorrak or whatever, but when he wakes up in the morning, he's just a man. But when Thor wakes up, his mystial power is inherent with him. Ditto here. Yuuki's power is inherent in HER, as well as her having the mystical amulet of Hermod. She's bringing a source of magic into a dimension that had none before....both herself and the amulet.
I scripted the original page, and Neil, Stephen, and the others rewrote bits and pieces. But I'm proud of the "Either you give me Hel--or I'll give you Hell!" line.
Makes sense that Yuuki can power Hoodoo just by being near. Valkyrie are supernatural entities in and of themselves after all. Choosers of the Dead and what not.
So Yuuki is basically an independent power source of magic which is why she didn't revert to a non-powered he when entering this non-magical dimension?
Bwhahahahaha. Welcome to the party, Yuuki. Great page, seriously. :)
Should be interesting to see how things go from here.
Still, awesome entrance. Love it. :D
Like Dasien's dialogue in Crossoverlord, I get the esteemed pleasure of tinkering with most of Yuuki's lines. Although, some of them here were already golden. I believe it was Al who scripted this page, and all I did was reword most of the first panel and add a third "really" in the last panel. But you'll be getting some of my signature humor sprinkled throughout this chapter.
Stephen's pages are great. We all wait for them patiently.
By the way, Kittyhawk, creator of Yuuki, will be joining Ben Carver and I for Animation Aficionados this weekend to talk about The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. This will be her third appearance. We expect the Tylor episode to be released Sunday afternoon.
Don't mess with Yuuki when he's mad. Really, he's already trapped in a girl's body and has great magical power, so you don't want to be in its way (just ask that Otaku who shows up every Christmas).

Great page, xmung! Love the little touches, like Perfect knocking the guy out without looking. And the "Mommy!" line cracked me up.
