I usually post a Christmas themed page this time of year before taking a couple weeks off before resuming the comic after the New Year has begun. Unfortunately, updates may be a bit sporadic for a few weeks or, perhaps, a few months.

On Monday, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Last week, Kathy had a biopsy which turned out to be positive. She is scheduled to be seen by a oncology specialist next Tuesday. At that time we will find out what the next step will be. The biopsy has shown Kathy has DCIS, or Ductal Carcinoma In Situ. The one upside to her diagnosis is this sort of cancer has a very high cure rate, and the tumor was found at an early state. For that, I am very thankful. Regardless, cancer treatment can be physically taxing, so I know there will be some difficult times ahead.

Please be patient with me in this trying time. Kathy is a strong-willed lady, and she has an incrediblly positive attitude. I am a very lucky guy to have her in my life.

Dragonaur - Kathy and I just got home after a long meeting with the cancer specialist and her team. While she told us the cancer had now just begun to enter the surrounding tissue, it doesn't add much to the original diagnosis. The lump and the at-risk surrounding tissue will be removed in out-patient surgery with very little invasion. After that, the treatment will include hormone blocking medication with a slight chance of some radiation treatments. This is very good news, but they will still send out tissue and sentinel lymph nodes for further examination to be on the safe side. While I was confident we had caught this early, I am even more confident Kathy will make a full recovery. Thanks for your encouraging words.

I will, and thank you. She's an incredible lady. If anyone can overcome this, it is her. She keeps telling me it could be so much worse. I know she is right, but it is easy for "what if" to creep into my thoughts. Your words help a lot.

Thank you. Everyone has been so supportive and Kathy and I greatly appreciate it. I am very anxious to hear what the oncologist says. I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible, but I'm also trying to be realistic about things. There is a wide range of possible outcomes and treatments. It's best for me to stay away from those thoughts. I'll try to post a filler every other week, but I'll keep your offer in mind. Thanks, again.
