There's a clear dividing line between the two cities here (a rather wide river), so they're not exactly scrunched together, but--besides obvious sports rivalries--they share a waterway, so the cities compete for shipping businesses as well.

My hometown is scrunched up against a neighbor like this. it's led to a rivalry of epic proportions. Also, the oldest High School football rivalry in the country.

in california cities are bumped up to each other all the time, like oakland, berkley, and emeryville. no visible borders, sometimes not even a sign. doesn't cause any rivalries, it is just a geographic thing, well that and having to deal with different governments, an interesting tid bit is that i know people who have called 911, and have given the wrong city. the end result is that the local operator tells them to call the proper place and hangs up on them. super heroes would be quite helpful in places with smooched cities.

Macattack--Sorry about the delayed response. After responding to smkinoshita, I started getting Bad Gateway messages. Anyway,I know what you mean (regarding flying poses). And Fusion's "flight" is really just fusion-powered propulsion and not actually defying gravity, although she can limit her "thrust" to equal gravity, creating an appearance of floating.

@smkinoshita: That actually has me worried... I didn't know he was capable of not saying anything.... @EssayBee: Interesting flying pose. I'm having trouble trying to figure out flying poses myself... it's so easy to make their flight look awkward or even painful :P
