Enya, I do not think occasional means what you think it means.
Science rules! U.S. high school level science has greatly influenced how magic works in this story. Since I was a big science nerd in high school (when I did a majority of the world building for Eternity Complex), I tried to incorporate all of the scientific knowledge I found fascinating into how magic works here. What I learned of genetics went into how magic is inherited, the Demis powers are a nice mix of physics and chemistry, and Adriks and Astors (and those like them) powers are part nervous system and part gases with some other stuff sprinkled in. So that I dont ruin what the other races are fully capable of, Ill hold off on featuring which pieces of science (if any) influenced them.

Deciding not to use Ent as the name was something I really struggled with a while back. I ended up not going with the name in part because Ents are an exclusively Tolkien race (it seems like no one uses Ent as a name for their Ent-like creatures and I wonder if there is a trademark or copyright on name). Another part is they're also very different from Ents and I don't want to cause confusion.

hmm yeah she is rather creative with the truth. but then i suppose it is for a good cause. as for the talking tree names what about Ents? or do you not like that one?

Adrik can't hear Dwarven thoughts or sense their emotions under any situation. As for Aquations, he can sense their presence in any of their forms but can only, possibly pick up their stray thoughts when they take a solid humanoid form. Adrik can only sense emotions from the Talking Trees (I'm still not 100% decided on their name). And for Humans, the non-Demi lineage are walking billboards to Adrik while the Demi lineage can learn to shield their thoughts but it is a skill that must be taught so basically only the Demi lineage "recruited" into the Soldiers of Hope know the skill.

Depends on the people and the situation. When low on energy, Adrik can't tune out the noise while he is in a humanoid state. He's also extremely sensitive to the emotional states of those around him but he doesn't realize the extent to which other's emotions affect his emotional state (neither does Enya). Enya taught Fae how to shield her thoughts way back in chapter 2 for both Fae's and Adrik's benefit. Unless Enya purposefully feels like sharing, Adrik can not hear anything that goes on in Enya's head under any situation.

so he hears a lot of thoughts but can't really control it?
