@texan1972, so have most Pooka over the course of the war, which may have been a few months for humans, but for them it started 3 centuries before it finally ended.
@mhalpern I was of the mind that boo be there for snap to help him out. Boo has suffered a lot of loss (brothers, sisters, father) boo could be the person to show that it does get better. The stray is what is keeping them there longer then needed.
More and more it seems like Montigo draws a lot of his practical inspiration from Farscape and the biomechanoid ships from the series known as Leviathans, from his version of Damage Repair Drones (DRDs), to now ships that (at least psychologically) adapt themselves to fit the needs of the their crews (in Farscape, Leviathans could physically alter themselves, mainly their interiors, if their crew was small and on the run, they would become faster in exchange for some crew space, if they needed to transport lots of cargo frequently, they would make space for lots of cargo ect.) I can only imagine that Montigo wants to replicate that to a degree, I mean it would certainly effect the scalable subsystems, and may lead to repair drones making slight modifications to hardware to optimize everything, full self adaption would require a larger construct, and a few more essential systems in place than smaller ships such as Sheepdog...
So she's suggesting Snap be there to pick him/her up, to show that things change? That can go really well or extremely poor, if it causes Snap to break down, the shipmind may learn to dislike humans (not a good thing for a peace-ship), If however Snap doesn't break down and learns to surpass those fears, it can mean make a huge difference. After all if the ship is assimilating Boo's instincts, the last thing you want is a threat bias to develop, if it was a warship that'd be one thing but Sheepdog's not a warship, she's more like a passenger and cargo liner used largely for developing positive relations.

@rmccool sleep friend, well and rest. @mhalpern if the ships can evolve and adapt itselft to situation... that mean that they can also have family?
