For those of you who are into discussions about nerdy drawing techniques, I have recorded the process of drawing this page and posted it on youtube. The drawing time is sped up four times, and the audio commentary provides description of the techniques that I used in the drawing process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTyFpW_YgdM&t=1759s
You're using Blender! I was into Zbrush for hi res polys. 3D backgrounds were a life saver to me for more than 10 years in the job as a comic book artist. Thanks for showing your process.
I also use sketchup a lot in my commercial work, when I am laying out basic scene guidelines. The installed user-base is so big that there are a ton of free models available on the sketchup 3D warehouse. I can usually put together a 3D scene of just about anything within about half an hour, just by arranging a bunch of existing models
I forgot to mention a great program I use for drawing architecture; Manga Studio EX. Its tools as Rule tool and guides tools are a must-have. You can do a background in a few minutes with this lit' beauty.
I used to use 3DsMax a lot when I was an industrial designer, but my needs are no longer as technical these days. I have found that Blender does everything I need, and it's free too! I know what you mean about 3D being a life saver. I used to do architectural illustration years ago, and I had to lay all that stuff out by hand. I'm glad I never have to do that kind of grunt work ever again!
Thanks! This piece is a conglomeration of many different rendering techniques. Far be it for me to be consistent and stick with the same drawing style XD
Wow... This is just tear-sheddingly beautiful!! And your creation process...! Have you ever seen one of those 'most satisfying' videos..?! This is like one of those!!

I agree! Hahaha, I call it grunt work as well. When you know how to do a thing, like perspective and arch, why not to use a faster way? :)

I'm just looking at all these wondering how much time it took to build this place x_x
fallopiancrusader at 9:18AM, July 24, 2017
According to the priestess, they started building 10,000 years ago. Then again, maybe this planet's year is shorter than ours...

Just awesome in the true meaning of the word. I get a kick out of imaging those cats on scaffolding building all that.
fallopiancrusader at 7:27AM, July 23, 2017
Would they be called scaffolds, or catwalks?
