what most likely would have happened is that they get the following bonuses:
+4 to hide/stealth checks due to being small sized
+1 to attack rolls due to being small sized
All three of them took a variation on the Anthrophobia Flaw that specifically targets Evil Pirates.
and all three of them took the Coward Flaw.
Those two flaws allow them to take a total of FOUR feats, since they are human, and they are effectively First level NPC's. This allows them to take the Skill Focus (Hide) Feat (+3 to Hide), the Stealthy Feat (+2 to Hide and Move Silently) and the Skill Focus (Move Silently) Feat (+3 to Move Silently. Granting a +5 bonus to Hide and Move Silently from Feats alone, not counting any bonuses granted from other feats that aren't in the D&D 3.5 SRD, and not counting their actual skill ranks. Assuming they put the maximum number of ranks for level 1 into hide and move silently that is a +9 bonus to both not counting ability modifiers which I can only guess on.
Or, much more likely, they were hiding out of line of sight so that it didn't matter how poor their hide checks were, and their noises, while not overly quiet, were drowned out by the din of battle- I mean, that was a lot of shouting mooks.
Luckily, though, they're all first level rogues, and caught Kuro off guard, while all his AC comes from dex and maneuvres and other such things that give him really high touch AC (Since generally a lot of things target touch AC in order to bypass the usual ways of AC stacking like shields, armour, and natural armour)
Meaning they each managed to hit, thanks to abnormally high strength scores and Kuro's effective 10-13 AC, as well as decent rolls. So each one will deal about 1d8+1d6+9 damage (Thanks to having 22 strength somehow or another) which they get to effectively Maximize due to this one feat they have, and using a nice teamwork feat that gives them all automatic criticals when they attack simultaneously, and their weapons having x4 crits, they'll each do 47 damage. Unfortunately nonlethal, since they have a flaw preventing them from dealing lethal damage to a flat-footed opponent (Something GM added in to mess with Phil).
they put all their skill ranks into stealth, unfortunately to achieve that ability they took flaws that rendered them virtually useless in actual combat.

That means on average, DM and the others are going to need a result of 19.5 three times on two different skill checks each to beat their stealth.

HEY! We're pirates! We don't use that word!

I bet they got a bonus to stealth because of their small stature as well.
