Pyrophobia (teaser)

Okay, time to 'fess up … this pic has nothing to do with “Shades”! I should really post it over in the “BVC Scrap Book”, but I'm guessing it'll be seen by more people if I post it here. So, what is it exactly?
A couple of years ago I wrote a short script for a comic-writing contest. It called for a story about a very traditional (dare I say cliched?) female superhero but, hey, there aren't too many contests willing to take scripts without artwork, so we poor writers have to grab every opportunity, right?
I added a few trademark Bernerisms (links to the past, mysterious portals to the supernatural, hints at a family life for the heroine etc) in an effort to make it a little different to the norm, and sent it off. It didn't win (I guess Bernerisms aren't for everyone!) but, just recently, E.C. Nickel - one of my wonderfully talented artist collaborators on “Shades” - offered to illustrate it for me. It's only 15 pages long and, just in case anyone's interested, I'll be posting it here at DD very shortly.
Until then, just to whet your appetite, this pic is a sneak peek at Nickel's rendering of our heroine. And, no, she doesn't have a name. I just couldn't settle on one I liked!

Ha! It can be a ninja suit if, you like!

Statement on sun redacted. Now that I read the comic I see it's not a ninja suit. :p

I'd have named her Stoph Berner and her hero name would have been Zombie Fire. Really though, she should get some sun.

Thanks, guys. This will be just a little 15-page stand-alone superhero story, not a massive epic like "Shades". Still, I hope you enjoy it for what it is!

This is super cool! It's nice seeing your stuff up on the duck again! I can't wait to see your other comic!
