Personally I think it is very odd even from an American perspective. I don't see how it is supposed to appeal to me more. It is one of the reason I don't plan on seeing the movie even though I was big fan of the cartoon.
Still I think its slightly worse that the new Karate Kid movie is about teaching a young american Kung-Fu in China! Sadly I know very few people who understand why this is so dumb and frankly insulting! I have to explain to most people that it would be like having a movie called "The American Football Champion" be about someone going to Europe and learning to play Rugby.
There are black or brown people in anime?
(jsut kidding, sorry. I've seen..um, 2? Maybe.)
Is Yashao..from that cartoon..with the swordsman dolls? Or is my memory bad? He looks vaguely familiar.
to plymayer: Actually, the fictional Asian characters just look white from the outside but they are still considered pure Asians. The funny thing is that in most animes, black or brown people are hardly depicted as Asians.

I've thought bout that from time to time. Maybe the characters in anime aren't white, yellow or anything. Maybe they are just "generic people".
