So two weeks ago this comic actually broke the top 100. Monday it was back in the second hundred behind the deleted sprite game show comic Bowling for Pixels Page views were cut in half, then cut in half again in two weeks.
And if I see one more write up about some comic having fantastic art only to go there and see some lackluster pen and ink scribbles that look like scans off the back of napkin and unreadable hand lettered word balloons… Ugh. Oh yeah it's traditional art; so world, line up and ogle at it! All others need not apply.
My crap gets lip service, not respect. I thought… but as my drill sergeant told me “When you ‘thought’ you're WRONG!” It just isn't worth doing this anymore. This is some of the best shit I've ever done, but in the end it's still shit and no matter how you dress it up, to some folks around here it still stinks.
I have three more pages so those will go up and after that I'm probably taking another comic-making holiday.

Remember, this story does not take place in the 21st Century or even the 20th. The characters don't think like modern people. Stoic fatalism is one way to describe many pre-modern cultures.
Wise man. Stay out of the catfight if you don't wanna get scratched. I can understand your frustration; a lot of what goes into so-called success for a webcomic (or any kind of popular art) has a lot more to do with popularity and what's considered "cool" than any true assessment of quality. It's even true within the 2D world: manga themed art gets an automatic boost over traditional, at least in some venues. I don't know if there's much that can be done about it, honestly.
I love this comic. The format is bold and original. The story and historical insight is fantastic. Please do not abandon this. I look forward to each new page.
I wondered how you knew where Sword of Kings was in the vast frothing sea -- only just realized that selecting the Comics link displays 25 pages worth of comics as default, in ranking order, d'oh.
And I've been inspired by your stuff too - had I the talent I would love to do a photocomic ! I dig the look. I even bought some bravo-scale musical instruments; they're beauties! Don't know what I'll ever do with em, but you inspired me to spend that money!
also, your work isnt ''shit'' by any means. I hope you know that. this story has inspired a comic I am slowly working on. something character based like you presented here. this is some of your best writing IMO.
LOL well... I know you don't mean it as humorous but your rants always bring a smile and laugh to me - I think it's really how you word things - Raw and Unfettered but also succinct while being chock full o' Jabs!! Anyway, it's mystery to me why you don't get more 'likes'... I hate to see you take another hiatus, as this story really is some of your best shit ;) Anyway, while we have a new page... It reminds me how we recently hiked a section of the Appalachian Trail in Virginia, and we had someone with us who would NOT SHUT UP!!! So, I know how ya feel girl!! Love the language here - it's so lyrical!!
"The only thing a man should take seriously, is the fact that nothing is to be taken seriously " So you are reading my rants as humorous is quite appropriate.
