Back to the battle. Armor is a great thing. That blow to Ragnar's shoulder is no more than a bruise. I just had to do the pommel bonk on the head.
Ragnar's nickname before he lost the eye was sword-hand. He was a noted swordsman. I tried not to make it too much like fencing but wrists and swords only move in so many ways and Ragnar has a light way of handing his blade. He has a superior blade that is lighter and stronger than a normal steel sword so it can be handled with that kind of finesse. Besides recent research shows that Medieval swordplay really was pretty fine as opposed to *clunk* on *clunk*. The swords weren't that heavy nor were they always unbalanced meat cleavers.
Because the background would take away from the action it's blurred. ;) When in action the only thing you see is what is right in front of you. Concentration.
Stop playing with the poor fool and giving him false hope, Ragnar! Weapons historian Mike Loades has done a lot of really good work demonstrating how people fought in Medieval times. He's worth looking up on Youtube if you're not already familiar with him.
I've seen ones done by Royal Armouries and saw the live demonstrations at the Tower of London. I once freaked out an interpreter by doing pike drill. I was actually showing the wife. If I wasn't so invested in other hobbies, I'd probably be doing reenacting myself.

Echoing others, very nicely done! Posing and motion blurs! I've seen a few reenactments and they do look awfully fun!!

It was fun to stage. Notice Ragnar's two horns? One is for drinking and the other is for signaling. :)
