I tried hard to think about how all these agents, scientists, and soldiers should act. They've seen a LOT already. They even have a mutated giant in their care. They may not know fully what's going on, but they have enough of a handle on it to not have strong reactions when someone acts like they're coughing up a demon (from a few pages back). Shock moments are largely over - now everyone just wanst answers!
.
Not to say they won't experience a few surprises in the coming pages and chapters
.
Of course, the same can't be said for Kimber Lee - she's still experiencing one shell-shock after another…!
.
Thanks for reading everyone!

It's almost as if this virus has some sort of magnetic influence between it's victims.

@Paul: Yeah, the two 'realms' (or magisteria, per Stephen Jay Gould) matters to some people greatly (sometimes wwaaaaayyy too much!). Some in one camp can't stand the fact the other exist. Take Militant Atheists like Dawkins - they think it dangerous that ANYONE believes in a God. Then you have Creation-Scientists who try so hard to fudge the data because their faith can't handle an Earth older than 6000 years. It's maddening - and I could talk about it forever, so... I'll stop now ;)
PaulEberhardt at 9:54AM, Nov. 27, 2014
Just what I think, Kim. I hadn't actually thought of theologists when I said that, but you're totally right. Some things are matters of faith and some others are matters of science, and as long as nobody trespasses into the others' realm everything's fine. Faith and fun facts about the world, e.g. the earth's age, are so unconnected to me that I sometimes forget that to some people it does matter. However, scientists and theologists may sometimes work in strikingly - eerily - similar ways. You see, I used to love science until I started studying it years ago and found out how scientists sometimes arrive at what they call their knowledge these days. Somehow I ended up liking both now. ;)
tupapayon at 2:28PM, Nov. 26, 2014
The only thing I've read from Hubbard was Battlefield Earth... Lovely science fiction...
KimLuster at 10:12AM, Nov. 26, 2014
@tupapayon: hehe You seem a perfect candidate for Scientology :D
tupapayon at 9:27AM, Nov. 26, 2014
My science is not as good as my theology... And my theology is terrible...
KimLuster at 4:32AM, Nov. 26, 2014
@Paul: Haha, yeah! Overall I LOVE science (I read physics books for fun), and it's been immensely successful in uncovering HOW things work. And that's what science should stick to, HOW! Leave the WHYs to philosophers and theologians. I don't mind scientists musing on these things - just admit you're not doing science when you do. That said, turnabout is fair play. If a theologian makes a scientifically falsifiable claim (ie. how old the earth is), scientists are well within their rights to slam them down!
PaulEberhardt at 3:05AM, Nov. 26, 2014
In my experience, scientists generally know bugger all - they're just very good at not letting it show. It must be that way: no other explanation for some people to have finished their studies.
PaulEberhardt at 3:04AM, Nov. 26, 2014
Uh oh...
KimLuster at 6:43PM, Nov. 25, 2014
@Peipei: Lots (most really) of scientists just don't accept that. Some theories (multi-verse theory to explain the anthropic principle, for example) are born due to the fact that they're the best alternative to there not being a god or creator. The reasoning is: well, we know there's no god, so this theory has to be the explanation. I'd recommend the fantastic comic 'A Reasonable Case', by AlSchroeder (sp?), right here on the Duck, if anyone is interested in such stuff! (let it be known I'm not espousing either side, pro or con, in this comic, although an astute reader might be able to glean my leanings from it!)
tupapayon at 6:34PM, Nov. 25, 2014
Peipei: is that your scientific assessment?... And the ass shows again...
Peipei at 6:11PM, Nov. 25, 2014
I don't think they should be so quick to dismiss that there may not be a clear, scientific explanation behind this thing. Science can't explain everything you know! :s
Banes at 4:49PM, Nov. 25, 2014
This story is full of surprises! I don't know if comeuppance is even what's going to happen. Just lovin' the ride!
KimLuster at 11:10AM, Nov. 25, 2014
@Banes: Hey, we could make a new reality show: Little People - Big Jerks!! Yeah, pretty sure the status quo won't remain as it is forever ;) Still, hope there's still a surprise or two in store!
Banes at 10:11AM, Nov. 25, 2014
That little Poopi--Biggs is such a jerk sometimes, isn't he? Great shots here, and some major tension with poor Kim's angst and the big guy stirring! Something tells me these officials are in for a comeuppance...
KimLuster at 8:10AM, Nov. 25, 2014
@Vino: Biggs is acting rather amused, so maybe he feels the bonds holding Eli are secure enough - hopefully the most Eli can do is emit a foul and unpleasant odor in Kimber Lee's general direction! ;)
VinoMas at 8:04AM, Nov. 25, 2014
What's he going to do to her???
KimLuster at 7:26AM, Nov. 25, 2014
@Tupa: I'm ASStounded you knew that! - that's what I get for ASSuming things!! But isn't Posterior Orifice where Ike Turner goes to pick up his mail?
tupapayon at 7:06AM, Nov. 25, 2014
Can't take credit for that... In this case I had to mention it for being an extremely obscure reference... I thought analogy was the study of the posterior orifice of the body...
KimLuster at 6:35AM, Nov. 25, 2014
@Tupa: haha I thought you were making one of your off-the-wall colorful analogy-joke thingies! But you were serious - now I gotta go look up Walter Wink and Powers that Be :D
KimLuster at 6:33AM, Nov. 25, 2014
@FC: Thanks! I wanted that look to be one of chagrin, but also a touch of anger. I feel like I (sorta) pulled it off :D
KimLuster at 6:32AM, Nov. 25, 2014
@bravo: Thank You! I know I've been very guilty of long-windedness, but I'm trying haha As for the sleeper - sure these guys have fail-safes, right? ;)
tupapayon at 6:31AM, Nov. 25, 2014
Walter Wink in the Powers that Be (Christian theology about non violence) uses the pinwheel illustration...
KimLuster at 6:30AM, Nov. 25, 2014
@tupapayon: once again you've encapsulated it perfectly ;)
KimLuster at 6:29AM, Nov. 25, 2014
@plymayer: hehe Thanks! Of course, Poop... er, Biggs and the others don't seem too alarmed so don't expect a King Kong-like escape next page... ;)
