Have you ever been terrified… and then, set your resolve, and the fear just washes away…? . That's never happened to me…! . Thanks for reading everyone! :)
@Banes: If there's any sort of Mary-Sue Wish-fulfillment here that I'd admit to, it's a desire to have a Hero's heart! I hope I'd have it in me to be a True Hero should the situation arise!! But also hope I'm never tested ;)
@Peipei: I watched Terminator last night... While I always roll my eyes at its 'Time-Travel' paradoxes, the concept of 'inevitability' is interesting... And PISSES ME OFF! haha
Poor Kim D: She has to leave everyone she loves and cares about behind, but this really is the safest course of action for the family, really, sad as it may be...
I don't think we've got anything comparable over here. Of course there's Unification Day on the 3rd of October as a national holiday, but apart from being a day off it's not really celebrated, not in the families at any rate. Damn this GDR for taking so long to join the rest - before 1990 it used to be 17 June. Honecker's last revenge, I guess. ;/ My all-time favourite holiday has to be either Father's Day (although I've got no children I know of) or New Year's Eve. But New Year's Eve is special, because I had both the worst and the best holiday aof my life on a New Year's Eve... As a matter of fact I've got fond memories of the 4th of July when visiting the States in 1988 - campfire, fireworks AND summer all in one, what could a little boy want more? - and our cat was born on a 4th July, which is why we called her Indy. It may not be celebrated over here, but I always remember 4th of July. :)
I know what it's like when you overcome that special moment: when everything's done you feel like, well, what I suppose it must feel like being godstrained yourself (in a positive way). Love the last panel - another masterful handling of an unusual pose/angle. Happy 4th of July, by the way.
@Sky: hehe true, and even so, I do think most media depiction of vents for sabotage and escape are way overdone! As for Eli, I'll try to hold him off a bit longer!
@Szyszka: hehe... Yeah... to keep the Monster from getting me, I'd probably throw my kids at to distract while I make my es... *joking, folks! Joking!* :D
I often smile at the use of large vents as passageways too but I can understand that maybe it could be neccessary for maintainence purposes, like if animals got in there or a section came apart so I'm happy with that. I get claustrophic very easily and my worst nightmare is going head first down an angled chute that then narrows at the bottom! Back to Eli though, I'm sooo glad she didn't open the door but not seeing him doesn't make me feel any more at ease. I'm just trying to wish him away instead!lol
@darkace: Yeah I've had it explained to me but I guess until you experience it you just can't really get it. My spouse is into competitive sports and he's described it... One time he bowled a 300 during a league game and it was like that, relaxed the whole time and everything was hitting, like clockwork!
@KimLuster--I'm sure it's different for everyone, but for me, when I get in a zone, it's weird--everyone not involved with the game like the crowd becomes a blur and the only focus is on the game transpiring. It's like your instincts take over and you don't overthink or over analyze your next move, whether you're shooting the ball or going for a steal. It's kinda hard to describe. I guess the closest thing is--have you seen the movie Driven with Sylvester Stallone when they're driving and their focus shifts and everything? it's kinda like that.
@bravo: I debated how realistic it was even having vents like this in a 'super-secure' vault, but decided they make too good a traditional trope not to use... But I do picture them being 'super-tough' and not so easy to just open up (this being a vault) :D As for stage fright, I used to have it badly, but my hubby (who is a total ham!) has helped me break it...some! :D
Um doesn't anyone have a multi-tool or bolt cutter they can offer Kim here? Those varied perspective scenes are very well done and the panel with her hanging off the screen is very good. Great change-ups in POV in each panel. As for the fear washing away? That's an illusion. It is still there but you're so absorbed in activity that you just don't have the time to pay any attention to it. Back when I acted I had horrific stage fright. Once on stage I channeled it into my performance.
Yeah, the first time I played a game in front of a huge crowd. I was terrified at first coz I didn't want to mess up, but once the game started, all that fear went away and all I saw was the game playing in front of me and nothing else, not even the crowd. It's being in a zone.

@darkace: I've heard of this nebulous state - the 'Zone' :D
