Oh, so you meant a reviewer who only reviews comics that they are asked to reviewed? If that's the case, I have to wonder how they could possibly get any comics to review, since without reviewing a comic they can't really become known as a comic reviewer.

Thanks all! :-) hkmaly - No I didn't even think of that. shastab24 - True, but you'd think someone who was into reviewing webcomics, might like them & actually go looking for new ones to review. I've looked at thousands of webcomics thanks to links & people listing favorites. Celtic Minstrel - Actually the intent was those webcomic reviewers who want people to ask them to review the comic. Admittedly taking that idea & trying to turn it into a humor-like product may have resulted in some confusing dialogue. ghostrunner - Are there really cartoonists today who don't receive fan mail or look up info about their comic on the web? I think if a modern day cartoonist is unaware of criticism about their cartoons they are intentionally hiding in a cave on Mars with their fingers in their ears... or nobody knows their comic exists.

kinda true. then again web comics arent like standard industry cartoonists where theres a few layer of beaurocracy between them and critisim.

Uh, shastab, you've completely turned it around there. You're talking about the comic creator asking someone to review their comic, whereas the comic is talking about a comic reviewer asking the creator if they can review their comic.

But there's also the fact that plenty of reviewers may not find said comic unless asked. For instance, the Webcomic Overlook (of which I have not read the entire archives, I'll admit) doesn't seem to realize that there are any serious superhero comics on the web, despite them being in existance since before the website began. Plus, there's the problem with bruising an ego: by someone asking another to review their comic, they are saying that they can handle the criticism (or at least that's what they should be saying). It's up to the reviewer then to try and be helpful--the review is for the creator as much as everyone else, and should offer advice as to how things can be improved. Granted, I also like reviews where it wasn't requested, but I can understand the validity of a review-by-request circumstance.

You ARE aware of the fact that Fair Use can work differently or not at all in jurisdiction of other countries? Of course, if reviewer from USA asks cartoonist from USA for permission to review comics hosted on USA servers ...
