I was stupid enough to read the manga to i don't know how far, and I watched the anime. And that picture of Xan is rather different than the third and fourth panels of this comic.
Not to be rude or anything, but since we keep getting this I drew up a comparison. To make it fair, I drew Xan with the same thousand-yard glare.

Let me point out that Xan doesn't have gold eyes, they're yellow. He's also wearing a red shirt, not a jacket (Nick didn't draw it with buttons and I just kept with the original design). Xan also has no eyebrows, and except for having the hair tied in the back it is a completely different hairstyle. And Xan has pointy, angular features while Ed is rather baby-faced. Color scheme does not make a character look like another, mine friends. Otherwise everyone would be comparing him to Inuyasha instead.
Also neither of us have actually seen much of FMA ( especially not when this comic started, it wasn't on Cartoon Network yet)
The only anime character I'm aware looks slightly like Xan (or inspired him so to say) isn't even the same color scheme, I think it was a minor character in a Tenchi Muyo comic. I'll have to ask Nick about it.
