That story shows up in some books on Bigfoot/Saquatch. It's also one of the favorite stories told by skeptics. I've read it at least twice.

I already was into cryptozoology in 1975 at the age of 10. Bigfoot was huge in the 1970s. Did you know he's been sighted in nearly every state in the USA? Even New Jersey (though I think he's scared of the Jersey Devil) I don't think he's flown out to Hawai'i, there they have little people.

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest, Bravo.

Haha, yeah, there's even a “Skunk Ape” out there. The chupacabre has also been seen in just about every state now.

In Oregon, there's a “Camas Valley Marsh Monster”. My grandmother and grandfather saw it one night, and my grandfather took a few shots at it with his 44. Said he hit it a few times, but the fucker kept getting back up after rolling a few times and ran into the woods. Since it was really late at night, they didn't get a real good look at it. They lived on 14 acres of land surrounded by forest.

Of course, they said it looked like a sloth type creature of some sort, and they wouldn't be surprised if that's what it was. People let lemurs out by “accident”, and they've had sightings of them in the area as well.

I love how feral domestic cats regularly and routinely get mistaken for pumas, panthers, jaguars, leopards…

SO many stories WORLD WIDE about mysterious “big cats” and they almost always turn out to be wild house cats. No matter if people can point to stories about circus lions going missing in the area years and years ago, or that some strange person bread big cats once upon a time… When they find the cat it turns out to be a slightly bigger than normal house cat.

…when there are big cats out there they tend to get found pretty quickly.

Maybe those house cats seem to grow when you see them on a lonely dark road? ^_^
Sounds like a story by Algernon Blackwood lol!

In Jackson NJ there is a Six Flags Great Adventure which has a Safari Park. Needless to say there are lots of reports near there about escaped large cats.

The police and Animal Control have to investigate all of them, because a couple of times it was an escaped tiger/lion. Then there is also the resurgence of mountain lions and coyotes in NJ. About time too as there are way too many deer and too short a hunting season.

There was someone who had a pet lion cub in Britain and that led to reports of large cats in Britain for years. They finally found the lion, now fully grown. Sometimes the reports are true. There were also reports that someone had several lion cubs that were released and they may have been breeding.

Sometimes feral cats due to a richer diet can get very large, as large as the smaller wild cats. (like the mountain lions in NJ) There's an outside domestic cat in my neighborhood (who took care of mouse problem) who is over 24 inches long. He keeps marking my backyard (which is why I think he's male) and I think he scared away the local racoon. The local skunk sprays him from time to time.

How about Mothman? You see a large owl at night and you'll think its a flying man. They are huge or look like it when they swoop down on you.

Turkey buzzards have been mistaken for large flying birds (most people can't judge size at distance very well) or even pteradons.

It's like one person's mothership UFO is another's Quantas 737 on approach with full lights.

I think that's the best explanation for the cat thing. Which is why you hear of bob-cats and lynxes mistakenly reported as big cats. The ones that have been proved to be actual big cats are extremely rare, but the stories of the mysterious big cats are not. And the reason they're mysterious is because they're reported in places where big cats don't live at all… i.e. not the Pumas in the U.S.

The biggest domestic cat I've ever seen doesn't compare to a leopard or even a serval., let alone a big dog.

But sight plays funny tricks on people, as you say :)

Fifteen minutes (or days?) of fame. At least the Patterson film hoax lasted for decades. You gotta do these things right. :)

Honestly though, using a costume or whatever was just a really stupid thing to do. I could have probably pulled off a better hoax than this.

I don't think it's so much the materials you use, but the setup :)
With a hoax or a con you have to know how to deceive your audience in the right way in order to get what you want.

:(

For the same reason people in 1939 were more interested in who was to play Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Windthan in Germany occupying Czecheslovakia and threatening Poland.

I knew it! After all it's right next to Xena-land– Middle Earth/ New Zealand. It can't be real.

Hmmm; Lucy Lawless; New Zealand, Celine Dion; Canada.

Nope, Canada wishes it was New Zealand; that's why they play hockey, wear toques and drink lots of beer, eh. Welcome to the Great White North…eh,

They also have lots of Bigfoot eh. They just don't make a big deal out of it eh, after all it could be the result of too many beers eh.

(not to insult our great friends to the north, sheesh I'm from New Jersey, the most over populated, over taxed and corrupt state in the USA. Canadians come here on vacation to laugh at how pathetic we are but at least we have beaches. )

You didn't pay attention in those artist anatomy classes did you? Hands, hips and neck.

I had to draw every bone in the body by itself and then study hip motion and stuff. If they're men then left is right, up is down and I'm the prime minister of Australia, in which case I'm sending the police out to lock you up for the public good. :)

Yeah, but what about her cock?

It's kept in a freezer in Hanger 18 in Area 51 right next to the Grey aliens from Roswell, bigfoot, the jackalope, the Jersey Devil and the Loch Ness Monster.
(Reptoids are kept in a studio vault with other monster make-up in Hollywood)

Hips. Hips, hips.
And Jamie Lee Curtis is a man, but her body can't absorb testosterone so she's female. (urban legend)

Are you certain you don't mean cuckold?
