Yeah. At school only, though. I'm a senior who hangs out with a bunch of freshman and sophmores.

It just means you accept all requests.

I do that but people don't like me so…I have less…

And even less in life…

…And poopy.

Disregard this
Might wanna consider making more.

I think I might have ill-advised by saying that.
If you enjoy life then there's no real reason to care if people think you have no life. If you have 1000 friends online that wont necessarily brand you as having no life. As long as you enjoy what you do it doesn't matter if you have no friends or a billion friends.

Although the billion friends might make things easier or just complicated.

Shiny new comic.

Well, no one else in the senior class have the same interests as I do. At the time I was a freshman, I had a single friend, but he dropped out when I became a sophmore. Went the whole sophmore year without much to do on recesses, then made a few freshman friends in junior year, then when those freshmen became sophmores, they carried their 8th grade friends over. I have about like six friends IRL.

I tend to friend every profile I visit on drunk duck.

You know I've only seen two profiles with the 1000 friend medal, Volt6 and myself.

Trust me, I've seen a lot of profiles, about a thousand and ten plus worth.

I really hate how social networking has got it into people's heads that if they don't have an unrealistically manageable pool of friends in real life, they're somehow pathetic or worse off than everybody else. Most people seldom have more than a handful of friends whom they have a solid line of communication with. Six friends is pretty normal, duder.

Well said.

Although some people have varying definitions of what makes a friend, most of my facebook friends are people I know and generally get on with. I'd more call them acquaintances really. I have maybe fifteen good friends who have been constants in my life for prolonged periods.

as my good friend used to say, its not the number of friends you have that matter, its the type friends that you have.

I feel for you, Castle Pokemetroid, when i was in senior, i too had the realization that no one else shares the interests that i had back then. Because of that i had the image of being one of the weird guys at school.

But it shouldn't really stop you from going out and making good friends with other people. Them having different likes is actually an opportunity for you to try them out and discover new things.

Sounds kinda like my senior year. When I graduated, I knew my class fairly well, and the freshman and sophomore classes almost as well, but was completely ignorant about the junior class. Which made it awkward in college when they approached me and I had no clue who they were ._.

Amusing anecdote: Suicide Girls tries to double as a social networking site-complete with a friends list- in addition to, y'know, all the naked photos. And if no one is on yer friends list, the link simply says “You have no friends.” Thank you for the social critique, mr. porn site.

lol!
Yeah… if you use social networking on a porn site “You have no friends” is probably true regardless if there's anyone on your list or not. ;)

……………..

Ok, I know that's a nasty generalisation and not likely true at all anyway, but the idea seemed funny to me so I just had to write it. :P

Me too. I have lots and lots of cat friends.

People friends, ehhh…not so much.
I tend to get along with most of the people I meet, but have found it quite hard to make any friends who I really want to spend a lot of time with. I'm shy and weird.
Sometimes I think I like animals better anyhoo. : )

That being said, Cats are like a million times better than Dogs.

I'd say having 1000 offline friends means you have no life.

Then you're too busy making friends!

Call that jumped up metal rod a knife?
Watch mine go straight through a kevlar table, and if it dunt do the same to a certain gaixan's skull in my immediate vicinity after, I GET A F*****G REFUND! BUKKO, AH?!

Dogs are so much better than cats. I've had cats try to sleep on my face to smother me, dig their claws in to my throat because I stopped petting them, and stick their paws down my throat while I was asleep. I've yet to have a dog try to kill me.

The ironic thing is that those are all just examples of cats showing affection (they like you), and pet cats would actually never even consider the notion of killing a human- they're very simple creatures, they just don't think in those terms. -And as small predators, such ideas are completely outside the scope of what they're able to consider possible. They're solitary predators who hunt and kill very small animals for food, that's all evolution gave them.
-Contrary to popular belief, cats aren't even as deep as a very shallow puddle. There are no secret, scheming thoughts happening in those fluffy faces. They're just simple, naturally pragmatic, small animals. They'll never consider you prey.

If a cat really does have an issue with you, they are absolutely direct about it and will mainly seek to try and intimidate you or scare you off, but 90% of the time they'll just try and run away.

But this is where the irony really hits home: A loved pet dog can actually sometimes consider killing you or a member of your family- not because they're mean or sneaky, it's just the natural dog way to establish pack-dominance and move up in the hierarchy. This is how evolution made them.
They don't usually consider humans prey unless they're part of a pack of some sort.
-As long as they're sure of and happy with their place in the hierarchy though, you shouldn't have any problems ^_^

————————————–

/hijack thread into cats Vs Dog thing… But then the DD friends aspect was sort of petering out anyway…

The DD people I most consider friends are those I talk to on the forums a lot.

LOL I like a forum where a topic is derailed and the admin goes along with it. You know really though evolution didn't make dogs the way they are completely humans had a big role in how they developed and we have made them more aggressive in a lot of ways.

The logical part of my brain knows it's exactly how you described it, Ozone, but I ignore that part of my brain because it's explanations are boring. So I'll go on believing that most cats are evil assassins hired by squirrels to kill me as I sleep.
But really I was raised with dogs and I'm very slightly allergic to cats so I tend to prefer dogs. Plus dogs are more fun to play with in my opinion. However I love both and plan to get a dog and a cat when I'm able to have pets again.
As for the actual subject of the thread, I don't have a lot of “friends” either online or in real life. I have six friends I'm really close to in real life, and probably around twenty people who I would consider more than acquaintances but that aren't really close friends either, if that makes sense. So I would say that having just six friends is perfectly fine.
What isn't fine is hanging out with Freshmen. They aren't people and as a senior it's your duty to look down on them with scorn and ruin their lives. Or does that only happen in the High School I went to?
Meh

I haven't had a cat attack me except while playing, but I was attacked by a dog twice as a kid. It got me pretty badly the second time. :\

You know, seeing that I'll be off to college in a matter of months (Five maybe), I question to if I should or should not get a cat in college.

The little things need to eat and other stuff, which might bring up complications in terms of budget.

Making friends is pretty tough for me IRL, seeing that if we don't share very much in common or have the same interests, it's so very tough to maintain a conversation. Hell, I've never had a girl friend before. Most peers would call that a sad fact, especially in Hawaii were teen pregnancies is more than most of the other states.

It's like I spend all my time in a web comic hosting site, which is rediculous, right?

Cats will frequently go out hunting for their own food or scrounge off somebody else regardless of how much they are fed by their owners. They're the IDEAL pet for those on a low budget. Just don't get a kitten. They need training and vaccinations.

Castle, if you can budget for it, cats make great(relatively low-maintenance) companions.

Faliat

I have to disagree with you on a couple points here. First of all, if he's in college he'll probably be in an apartment of some sort…it wouldn't really work to let a cat roam free in that environment. Even if you do have an outdoor cat, you'll likely have to budget more for vet bills(although I haven't had an outdoor cat in a long time so I don't really know). They're exposed to more diseases that way and some cats like to get in scraps - the last time my Haiku got out he got a nasty scratch on his nose.

Also, while kittens do need vaccinations(so I might also recommend an adult cat to someone on a tighter budget), they don't really need training as such. Cats really only need litter training, and most kittens already are when they're adopted out(at least from good shelters). Trying any other training with a cat is a fool's errand.

According to my local humane society(with some Hippie Van tips):
The Cat Budget
For a spayed female, 9 pound, domestic short haired cat
One Year Minimum Cost (approximate)

Food and Treats (This part can vary a lot depending on the type and quality of food your cat gets - for instance, I have one cat who will only eat wet food, no dry food or treats.)
4 cans of cat food (6oz) at $1.09 = $52.00
1 bag dry cat food (8 lbs) per month at $22.00 = $264.00
12 tins of cat treats at $3.00 = $36.00

Veterinary care
Yearly visit – exam and vaccinations $75.00

Grooming
1 container cat litter per month at $9.00 = $108.00
6 trips to the vet for nail clipping at $15.00 = $90.00 (If you get an easygoing cat you can probably do this yourself)
1 tube of anti-furball medication at $7.50 =$7.50

Vacation
2 weeks cat care at $18.00 per day = $252.00 (I don't really know why this is in the budget, we've never had to do this.)

Subtotal = $884.00

One time costs:
Spaying (female) and tattoo $100.00 (Some shelters include this in the adoption fee.)
Food and water dishes $20.00
Collar, leash, and harness $20.00 (You really don't need a leash for a cat, haha)
Brush and comb $15.00
Litter pan and scoop $10.00
Small scratching post $8.00
Cardboard traveling box $6.00
Toys and miscellaneous $30.00

Subtotal $209.00

Grand total $1093.50
