Well i just now started uploading my comic and i got some questions, so i might as well throw them out there.

1.How do i decrease the size of my files? they are only pencil drawings but…
2.how do i shrink something down to 100x100 pixels AND amek it less than 35 K?
3.how can i make my comic not so small that they cant read my andwriting, but not so big as to require loads of scrolling?
4.how can i make my site look better?

(myxo edit: Radec's comic is South of Sanity)

there is no doubt more but i cant rememebr any of it right now, so ill just handle these first.

more info needed.

  • What programs are you currently running for your images?
Do you scan them in? If so, what do you save them as (extension)?

If you don't have a picture editor, or you don't have a good one, I would reccomend you d/l The GIMP. It's free.

Well, lets see. the program im using to save them is just the one that i use to scan them in. they are saved as JPEG images, but i dont know if that is what should be used. i checked my site, and found out that the one comic i HAVE posted so far is enormous beyond all reason. Im not sure how that happened.
but mayeb i should try to revise my questions.

how can i reduce the size of my comics?
how can i effectively compress them?
what specifically should i search for on google for a tutorial?

and since my site looks realyl crappy with that huge comic taking up like a full screen per box, id say anything u can do to help me improve my site would be good.

gimme break here, im new at this.

also… how i get image small for avatar, dammit!?!?

OH CRAP.

i just checked the properties on my comics and they showed 2 MB each!
when i saved them they showed 1000 KB max!
someone please tell me what the hell could have happened!

im seriously starting to think this whole thing was just one really bad idea on my part…

everything is falling apart before i even got started.

Click the “profle” link at the top of the forum here. You can upload an avatar pick for the forums there.

You can find out about how to change your comic avatar amd do some other comic site changes in the FAQ here.

If you want to change your comic size download and install GIMP like SpANG sugested ok? You can use it to change the size of your images and make it much better for the web. ^_^

I'm guessing your comic is South of Sanity. Anyways, the page, like you said is WAY TOO big. Coming in at 3042x4352 in image size. And for some, that is pure hell on dial-up. It's worse to the people that have 800x600 screens.

(ha, I fall in the two categories.)

Now, for resizing, the good page size is around 600, 700. To do this, and going by blind faith of which image program you have. You have to look around for Image Size, in PhotoShop, you can find this in Image>Image Size. In PhotoStudio (if you have a Canon scanner, then this is the program that you'd have) you can find Image Size under Edit.

In most image programs, resizing images is either under Edit or Image, and most certainly, it will say “Image Size”

The cool thing about resizing is that the bigger the image is, the bigger the file size is. So what's that mean? The smaller the image is, the smaller the file size will be. Also, it smoothes out the page.

See, check out this page from your comic:

It's a 650x928 image that's file size is 160.89 KB.

At GIMP's official website, they only offer the source code. :D

To actually download the GIMP program, you have to go here.
