I was talking recently and I came up with the idea of writing an OEL anime and sending to a company. I know there isn't much of chnace it becoming a real OEL anime but it'll be fun to write as a group. First we come up with a plot and characters. Then we just start writing episodes. People will come up with ideas and if an idea is well liked it will go into a master script that I will put togther. How's that sound?

Ninjas! In L.A.! Wait that was already taken. i think in new york too…and i heard bad things about those movies…Well, I don't know what we could do. Ninjas isn't a bad start but we should mix it up a little. I did I have one crazy comic idea that I never started but might be good for this. Here's the plot for that: An evil pig demon has been destroying town after town in feudal Japan. A ninja with magic powers hears about this and he easily defeats the pig demon. A few minutes after the demon's death the ninja finds himself in a weird all white dimensiol thing known as the mind. The mind holds three people at once and the pig was one of them. Now that the demon is dead the ninja is now replacing. In the mind the ninja meets the two other people trapped in the mind. The first is the dead pig's huge, strong, and mute henchmen. The second is a beautiful girl from our time. The girl got to the mind by accidentally time traveling to feudal japan(she dosen't know how, and neither do I) and killing another one the pig's “in-mind” henchmen when he tried to touch her. Explaining the mind:As you know the mind holds the people, but what does it hold them form? Well, it holds them form basic life but they can go back to the regular world(one at a time) by entering a blue sphere called the control. If you are in the control you can be pushed out by another person in the mind. If you have any questions just ask. Even if you like this idea keep posting ideas until we pick one.

Can we have a berserker girl? I really like berserker characters. She could help…. accomplish stuff!

So… an animation project? Do we get to design what the characters look like, too? Does it absolutely have to be anime?

We sorta tried to do this in our anime club this year. What you're going to probably end up doing is having to resort to flash, or REALLY taking time to learn some animation tricks. I don't think it would be very possible, but you're welcome to try.

The plan isn't to really animate it, just to write it. If anyone wants to try to animate they can go ahead but it will be difficult. Maybe it dosen't have to be anime, it could be manga if alot of people want to :D . Well, I want to write something that's anime/manga but I guess a american style show would be fine to. If anyone wants to darw characters up they can go ahead. Remember, my one idea from before is just a brainsormif any one else has any ideas post them.

I think making an Anime is a bad idea. First of all, it's not really an anime if it's made in the US. Anime really refers to japanese animation. And I think we should be original when writing an animation.
Second, you writing an “Anime” type story is very difficult, because alot of it has already been done. Demon Pigs? That's been done before! Have you seen Princess Mononoke? That's the entire beginning of the movie…Demon pig attacks an ancient village and the main character slays it to protect the villagers. Time traveling!? That is the most cliche story in history especially in Anime and manga. You might as well give make the main character a angsty teenager with a sword and memory loss.
Plus the only manga artist who, I thought, could successfully do time traveling was Rumiko Takahashi (Who is the artist and creator of Inu Yasha, Ranma 1/2, One Pound Gospel and many many more). You need to come up with something different, most of the ideas you guys are naming have been done. Not to bust your bubble or anything, I'm just being honest.
I however, do animate in flash. And I'm a huge fan of animation. I know the history of Anime, and I know what it is now. I'm not a hardcore Anime fan so I don't know a ton, but I know the basics. I've seen a few of the animes, even ones that were from the 70s and before then.
I suggest you write for an animation period. I know you said that it was okay to make american style. But have you considered getting anything you can get. First of all you should write a story that is different but apealing to you, unless you are planning to have an audience. Now that's when the writing gets tricky, because what may seem funny to your friends and you may not be funny to everyone else. That's when you have to plan your plots especially the jokes very carefully.
I don't know…well, I'm going on a rant here. Good luck to you and finding some writers. I would help you if I was any good at writing however as different as my ideas may be, I think they're too bizzare for an audience.

Now, a Drunk Duck collaborative animation project would be a great idea.

Either develope a single story or style, or simply compile an anthology of sorts.

I'm a retard when it comes to using flash, but I draw somewhat well and can write and voice act. So if anything is going to happen, I can pair up with someone who knows flash.

Add Kain and Raziel, Kain is funny when his temper runs short and Raziel is always fun to see crying all the time, and if i do say so (scince my name is Kain IRL and this screen name) Kain would be good to see fight ninjas and stuff.

A huge DD animation thing would be insanely kickass. I like the idea of having lots of shorts. The shorts could be anything from webcomic based to completly weird.

I like that idea the best. maby if we can start a sorta Donation twordes somthing like that then someday it might turn into a reality!

there are so many great webcomics out there that would make awsome animes but for now I'll settle.

coolest would be.

a modern sci-fi adventure story with guns, drama, wonderful script writing a crazy story which makes you think, and purely awsome music from every genre. (rock, techno, hiphop, classical, world)

GOD THAT WOULD BE AWSOME!

hmm… somthing like FLCL cept without the craziness and without that band The Pillows (their good but not THAT good)

That's… kind of what I do. Right now. Sort of. But not anime.

I think this would be really fun! So… I think that maybe we should get a flash specialist or something, y'know, to teach the rest of us how to help succesfully @_@

Oh, and invisible girl? Stuck up much? And anime– good anime, too! Can be, and is produced in the US. So, if you don't want to help, just stay out of it!

But isn't anime the japanese form of cartoons? Or are we gonna have to get into the “Well the literal translation of anime is animation so…” arguement again.

Anyway…Japanese animation house style is hard to duplicate for a bunch of amatures, so it wouldn't be easy.

If you're going to do an animation in flash with limited knowledge of the program keep it simple.

um… firstly what does OEL stand for?

secondly: fantabulous I'd like to contribute.

thirdly: can we steer away from the average stereotypes in Anime? I'm fine with working with them, but if we could do something entirely fresh… or mostly fresh… well, that would be more fantabulous

OEL is “Original English Language”. They use this for American titles picked up by U.S. manga licensors like Dark Horse and Tokyo Pop to differentiate it between that and the actual manga.

Okay, here's a story idea I came up that originally related to Star Wars, but I think would work in its own right…

A small group of friends meet up with each other in an elite military training camp. Firearms, hand to hand, maybe telepathy if we want to go that route. Part of the idea is to have the team be of diverse species, just to mix things up. Maybe toss in a giant mantis.

Anyway, while they're all fairly good at what they do, they're not the best by any means. However, one day between training regimens one of the crew pulls out a guitar (or its futuristic space equivalent), and the other people in the group (probably about 4 or 5 of them), reveal that they also play some sort of instrument, and they start jamming out together. Over time they even skip out on training just to hang out and play. They all eventually leave the academy before graduating and form a band called “The Dropouts”.

Time goes by, and they're not exactly successful. Right now they're touring the galaxy in an out of commission battle cruiser one of them inherited from their uncle. The idea is that it's a ship capable of space battle, but not capable of anything too fancy. Maybe a few turrets and some empty rocket launchers.

While playing at some dive a group of hooligans bust in and try to rob the place. The thugs would even try to take their instruments, but being ex-military our crew is having none of that, and makes short work of the punks.

Unfortunately, the punks in question happen to be crew members of some sort of crazy space pirate. Maybe have his brother get killed by them. The story would then follow a band in a clunky old ship battling angry space pirates. Not sure how much you could get out of that, but that's my sci-fi music-based idea.

Whoa, Inkmonkey was a fairly interesting idea. It's deiently a start. Here's my little Sci-Fi idea: A small group of people volunteer to be part of some crazy military experiment. This experiment is injecting everyone in the small group with a special thing that lets them breath, keep warm, and navigate through space. The experiment goes well so the testing coninues. The group goes on various missions to test of the serum's powers. During one of these missions the planet of Earth mysteriously explodes into pieces. The group returns from the mission to find the world in pieces. the group now struggles to survive on the remaining pieces of the earth.

Er, not much to work off there, is there? The Earth blowing up seems a tad too convenient as well. And if the experiment was getting them to be able to survive in space, why would they try living off the post-apocalyptic earth? If they're going to be earth-bound for the majority of the story, the space survival aspect of their character seems a bit wasteful.

Well, they would be looking for other surviors. They would also be looking for clues on why the earth exploded, and who ever said the experiment serum stuff lasts forever?

I'm just saying, if it never comes up again, it's just going to give viewers an awkward feeling about it. If they just happened to be off-planet at the time (on a spaceship, or what have you) then their lack of spaceship won't be considered weird, since they're not likely to carry it in their back pocket or anything.

Like, let's say you start a series with a character travelling to Tibet to learn kung fu, and while he's gone racing becomes really popular in his hometown, so when he gets back he's a little behind everyone else and tries to get in on the racing action. Now, while driving a car, his martial arts expertise won't get any use, really, and if the series is just about him racing other people, why bother having him learn kung-fu in the first place?
