Any Furries here?

This was just something that was bugging me for a while.

It seems that lately any people that does art pictures of furries and or are into furries are often called freaks, and or people who are into doing animals.

And I've had friends who were into the furry deal, and even dressed up like furries on occasion. However, they weren't into “yiffing” other furries which is another word for humping. They're not into bestalsexuality or into Furry porn.
basically they only do this because they feel a spiritual connection, if you will, to what they perceive their animal spirit to be. So this was just a fun way for them to get in touch with their animal side. It didn't arouse them in any manner at all.

Yet, shows like CSI and things on the net have given more attention to the perverted side of the furry commuty, and have not given a very good clear view of the whole picture as a whole.

It seems that lately that a MINORITY of that furry culture has been overshadowing and turning an fun, quirky thing into this whole perverted deal… giving furry artists and other Furries out there a bad name.

What do you think about this? Discuss if you like.

By the way, I don't consider myself an furry or anything… However, I am friends with people who consider themselves to be furriers, and I can certainly appreciate the artistic aspect of it.

by way as an example
If you replaced the word Furry with Catholic Church you would find that the same applies.

what makes a good television show and what is reality don't often mix.

I do think having a “spiritual” connection to a certain animal is a normal thing. Like most “normal” things there is abnormal behavior that can evolve from it. In my opinion it comes down to a level of obsession.

If I really like scooby dod and have a scooby doo costume that I sometimes wear to parties and halloween and when I'm being goofy, thats a normal level of obsession.
If I wear a scooby doo costume at home everyday and eat alot of scooby snacks and want people people to call me Scooter Doo. That's falling into an unhealthy level of obsession.

In My Opinion

OH and don't think the same can't apply if I we're a football fan. If I we're to decorate my entire cubical at work with my favorite team colors etc. That ain't normal neither!

Diesel Sweeties has a funny take on it.

I'd like to take it seriously, but an adult in a sloppy, synthetic fur animal costume is just funny :D
Still, the cat-girl thing is nice ^^
Mostly…
On my one and only experience with a Scifi con (we don't get many in Perth), I walked into the underground hotel reception to see a very ugly man with glasses as thick as a house brick, dressed up as a cat-girl…
He could only be described as the dark, underground emperor of the nerd people.

…still, the art piece I had entered in the artshow there won heaps of prizes, so I got over the truma.

…..well, now I know what “yiffing” is.

See? It's great to learn, 'cuz knowledge is… okay, knowledge is disturbing, in this case. This may be one of the fields in which School House Rock! is not the highest authority.

As for the whole “Furries: Fun Or Frightening?” debate, I think that it's really more of a “you go your way, I'll go mine” thing for me. For the people who want to “get in touch with their animal spirits” (like, you know, the daemons in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series… I guess), that's fine. Many world civilizations have been doing that for years; the whole “school mascot costume” thing is just a new manifestation of an old concept. For the people who wish to sexually partake of the anthropomorphic types, you go right ahead, though I admit it kind of sucks that what you're looking for is probably biologically impossible right now. (Though with genetic engineering, you never know… especially with all those lonely, lonely biologists out there…) For the people who actually have sex with actual animals, you do what you want, though I suggest you never, ever involve me in any way possible. (And don't send me pictures, either. I don't wanna see you cornholing a box turtle or whatever.)

You see, Aurora Borealis, people are different, and because of that, the world (and the art world in particular) is a more unique, varied, and wonderful place. So don't let others get you down. Just be yourself. Be your own high-powered revved-up body machine, and unpack any adjectives that're draggin' you down! (Whoah. Maybe School House Rock! really does apply to everything. Suddenly my life makes sense now…)

Indubitably, IJ

I read and enjoyed a comic called Hepcats and another one called Arcana, both with anthropomorphic characters – now called furries, I guess.

Hell, this is in the Disney tradition. Animals like people. Mickey Mouse doesn't really look like a mouse, right?

I don't read porn or comic porn, of which furries are apparently a part of it.

But the porn/deviant angle on niche market items like comics - or furry comics - seems to dominate the main stream characterizations. Probably because they are the furthest from the norm and are provacative and twisted enough to get people to watch the show featuring it.

It is the only embarrassing thing about comic books, in my opinion. The reputation that have outside of the comic book world is that we're all a bunch of geeks fantasizing about WonderWoman without her costume.

So, I guess I'm saying I sympathize with the non-deviant furry fans who are being painted with the broad brush of public opinion based on what the more extreme members' actions.

But it happens to everyone. Not every priest is a pedophile, not every drug addict is a thief, not every poor person is lazy, not every old person is cranky … the list goes on and on and on.

Live your life and forget what stupid people say/think about you. That's my advice.

People with the supposedly ‘strange’ sexual fixations tend to be happier and better adjusted with their sexuality than ‘normals’, or as I like to call them, ‘mundanes’ :P
Does that apply to Garry Glitter?
Robert Crumb had a thing for his aunt's cowboy boots… That wasn't what made him crazy. Still it was a good indication.
Great artist though. Fritz is one of the best furries ever!

My favourite furry comic is Jack.

Yeah, you're all right. that's just what prompted me to start this whole thread was because a bunch of my friends in real life is being picked on by certain neighbors in their area and stuff because of it.

like there's this one middle-aged man going around: “Those people are sickos! They're into furries, so they fuck animals!! keep your dogs and pets safe from them!”

And he's making such a big deal about it that the other neighbors are starting to believe him…

My friends, (a 19-year-old male and his girlfriend), decided to dress up just for fun and go out. She was dressed in cat ears and tails attracted to normal clothes, and he was dressed similarly, only expect with fox ears and tail.
It wasn't something they did everyday, but once in a while they did this when they were bored.

Just like how I dye my hair in wacky colors when I'm bored.

Anyway, on one of those days he saw them go out like that, and made the connection to Furries and stuff.
That's when the whole dumb thing started.

And now my friends are saying that they might have to take him to court just to have him stop spreading such sick rumors around, although they don't want it to have to come to that.

so that kinda thing just made me feel kind of pissed off.

No need for road maps here :D
People with “strange” sexual fixations can also actually be stange.
*Cough*Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer *Cough*

That's not to do with furries OF COURSE, just to do with “People with ”strange“ sexual fixations”.

I just feel sorry for Crumb's aunt. Having her socks sticking to the insides of her boots…
Imagine how her feet would smell?

not really much to debate here. I am going to disagree with your assertion that
People with the supposedly ‘strange’ sexual fixations tend to be happier and better adjusted with their sexuality than ‘normals’, or as I like to call them, ‘mundanes’
that's just going to be one of those statements that can't be backed up.
People without ‘strange’ sexual fixations are no less happy or well adjusted.

people are people.

Just cause a person doesn't get his rocks off while someone pours hot wax on them etc. Doesn't somehow imply that they are less comfortable or ‘mundane’

and on the flip side just because R Crumb liked making a mess out of his aunties boots doesn't imply that everyone should run out and hump a pair of boots.

think of the athletes wiener you could get.

its pretty clear that just about everything on the internet has furries in it, as i remember a good portion of the old DD comics were furry themed.

so whatever, if you are furry go be furry, if you arent remember not to confuse furries with something very similar, it is called an idiot.

idiots can be observed having sex with stuffed toys, eating canned dogfood and being shunned for not bathing.

If I had a dollar for every sexual experiance I had in a furry costume, I would actually loose several dollars, because I laugh and point at furries.

There is sexual fetishisms, then there is fucking wierd. Furry to me, is fucking wierd.

Oy vey this discussion is one of ‘those’ discussions. Well I've got to say that I think video games and cartoons are to blame. Just like people shoot up their school after playing Halo and watching James Bond, these video games such as ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ or ‘Crash Badicoot’ and movies such as …well…a lot of Disney movies probably are making kids like this early in life and corrupting them when they go through their ‘puberty’ or as I like to call it ‘when the devil first infests the body’.

And that is why I call for correctional videos to be sent to every
household to show kids what God intended them to do with their ‘sexuality’; lock it away and get a desk job or sell SUV's.

Pretty soon we can all be working in cubicles too.

I often feeel a spiritual connection to animals as well. Cats, in particular. That is why I got a cat. And I pet him.

It is not something that I am into, or ever have plans to get into. I don't quite get the connaection between a connection with animals, and drawing or dressing up as a human animal hybrid. And frankly, it rreally dosen't appeal to me.

But then, a lot of people in this world do things that do not appeal to me. And that is their buisness. Not mine.

No no no, music is the devil too. It causes kids to think that there are things like ‘distractions’ in life which will deter them from reaching their prime productivity.

Too bad I can't do voice inflections on the net or this would be funnier. That is, if the world I'm talking about had any sense of humor. Which, by the way, it doesn't. Because every time you laugh God kills someone in accounting.

But then, a lot of people in this world do things that do not appeal to me. And that is their business. Not mine.

I kinda feel a connection to leopards… however there's a few problems with this:

1) they are huge-ass cats, and not really bred to be house pets…

2) I'm allergic to cats.

So what do I do? I just got a leopard-print bed set.. pillows, sheets, comforter.. that kinda thing. I also got a leopard fake fur coat, and a leopard faux rug.

that way works for me where I can kinda express and feel that connection to a wild cat. :)

And the funny thing is… I'm actually a dog person. I own a dog.

some people collect figurines, some simply own the animals… and others feel that just owning something isn't really helping you get in touch with your “inner animal”, so they feel like they need to dress up on the outside to feel like they've became their inner animal for a short time.

Whatever floats your boat, I say.

I draw anthro characters mostly, and that, in some peoples views make me a furry. I don´t have a problem being called that were it not for the fact that I immidetiately get accosiated with load of bad stuff. I know many furries though, and most of them are nice peoples.

When did this trend start of associating anthropomorphic cartoon characters with sex? Anthropomorphic cartoons should, by reason, be quite safe from such fringe association, since it is so mainstream. Everybody and her mother grew up watching Mickey, Donald, Scooby, Bugs, Tom, Jerry, Pooh, Yogi, etc etc etc. EVERYBODY in the televised world was once a “furry.”

When Walt Disney drew Mickey, and then gave him a romantic interest named Minnie, do we call him a sicko? His characters have no PANTS!

Maybe because most of the most well known furries, such as Eric W Schwartz and Jay Naylor, apparantly draws pay to view porn as a side business? And Sabrina does not wear any pants either lol!

I think it is part of genetics.

Think about it. Why do most vertebrates look alike in their fetus stages?
