Why do so many video game inspired comics suck? Drawn or sprite, I've found a few good ones that have earned my respect and i've followed, but why do most suck? Weak story, weak characters, why?
And why is mario and luigi always used in it, why not exclude them for once?

It is mainly because authors rely on readers to know all about the video game to make sense. Now. I have read many comics/manga with video game references. (Such as seeing a bad guy and calling him the “final boss”) and that works out well. But as said before, most video game comics rely on foreknowledge of the video game. (And I don't read sprite comics so this is just referring to comics like Eff Eff Ex)
They are separated on occasion. But since they run a plumbing business together and are brothers, it is expected for them to appear side by side.
Because plumbers are just boring sometimes. And Lugi is the only one smart enough to weld such devices.
