Auschwitz... An UWE BOLL MOVIE!!!

The issue of the Holocaust, while never an easy one, has been the source for some great movies (Schindler's List; Life is Beautiful; Au Revoir, les Enfants).

As the movies previously mentioned show, in the hands of a capable writer and a talented director, this sensitive subject can be turned into a very touching story that highlights both the more bright and darker aspects of the human being.

But what happen when a man known for his horrible videogame based movies decides to take on the subject?

You get Uwe Boll's Auschwitz. (Trailer it's probably kinda disturbing. Not sure if is SFW, I've warned you, just in case).

A Holocaust Torture Porn movie?
A Nazisploitation story?
An Oscar bait?
An actual honest attempt from Dr. Boll to make serious cinema?
A contrived but accurate fable of his film career?

All I can say is that I'm disappointed that this movie has been greenlighted but there are no plans to actually make Werewolf Women of the S.S.

I'd much rather see that.
Udo Kier is such a terrifying guy. He scared the pants off of me in Lars Von Trier's Kingdom (Riget). He makes the most perfect Nazi…

And that is THE role for Nick Cage!

This is the same guy who has previously joked that his movies were funded by “nazi gold”.

Interestingly enough, he's actually shooting it concurrently with his next Bloodrayne movie, which also features Nazis. Probably saving money that way, too. I think Uwe Boll is one of those guys that is too stupid to know that what he's doing is wrong, and too involved to realize that what he is making is bad. So you pretty much gotta ignore the guy.

He's richer than us, so he's obviously not stupid.
And it's not as if he's destroying the Gulf of Mexico in order to get rich. Just some ppl's geek loves.
What exactly is he a doctor of?

That doesn't follow Mlai. You don't have to be smart to be rich, just willing to do what other's won't.

Haha, so that could be making fleecing billions from investors and ruining people's lives… or just making crap movies. :)

I couldn't say though, I've never seen one of his films.

I have and they're crap. But they're not any worse crap than other stinkers you might have seen on sci-fi channel. They're just especially reviled because they use game franchises.

Not specific franchises that ppl hate to see ruined; do you really care if Bloodrayne is ruined? It's just that gamers got tired of him repeatedly sullying the whole genre of game-movies.

Then there's crap that defies the abilities of even Uwe Boll:

So mlai, are you suggesting that he's aware of how bad his movies are and is purposely making the movies bad?

What? I thought we all knew that already.

I was simply adding that his movies aren't “so bad they're good.” Just bad.

Eh…Both “Alone in the Dark” and “House of the Dead” are great movies to watch with friends.

I mean, you have to admit that “Why do you want to be inmortal-To live forever!” is a pretty funny line… It's not Van Damme's Street Figher, but is funny…

The rest of his filmography is either boring (his Undersiege movie) or just mind-numbling idiotic (Postal).

I know there was the rumor that he was purposely making his movies failures so that a German law loophole could make his movies profitable, but I'm not sure I buy the idea that it was his intention. For one, the law has been changed (like several Uwe Boll movies ago) and I don't think any director really wants their name dragged through the mud like that. I think like most people he genuinely wants to make something good and he's not succeeding.

Plus, why challenge your detractors to boxing matches if you know they're right?

Most of Uwe Boll's recent films haven't been based on video games, though. After the law changed, Uwe Boll suddenly decided to take his job seriously and make movies based on historical events and figures. From 2003 to the end of 2008, he worked on nine movies, seven were video game licenses and one was later made into a video game by Boll. All fell under the old German tax codes.

Between 2009 and the end of 2010, however, he has worked on six additional movies. The quality of the shot direction, story, acting, and general production went up suddenly, despite lower budgets. Boll moved a lot of his operation to Canada and only one of the six movies made in the last two years is based on a video game, and that was a license he already held. He also doesn't have any game movies currenty in production or in the pipeline.

While it may be just a rumor that he was using the loophole, it still seems odd that when he could utilize the tax loophole, he chose the movie genre best known for never having a successful movie franchise and as soon as the loophole was written out of the tax code, he had a sudden and drastic change to his approach to film making. No more video game movies and a sudden jump in writing and directing. Might not be 100% damning for Boll, but it's mighty suspect.

Just from watching the trailer I know it's gonna be horrible. And that's aside the fact that dude is just jumping on very painfull issue to us, Polish.
I wonder if this jackass ever was in Auschwitz-Birkenau. I bet not.

That trailer actually scared a bit. Maybe it was that washing machine sound or the imagery or both, but it's kinda terrifying.

If it's a horror movie, then I say mission accomplished, the trailer freaked me out. It freaked me out so much, I'm not going to watch it.

Also, I'm wondering how it's up on youtube. It's got boob in it, that means the youtube censors should have taken it down on the first few views.
Read this comic. It is the greatest journal comic ever written and drawn. Trust me.

Considering he was born in 1965, I seriously doubt it. I also doubt he's doing it as some personal insult to the Polish, as well, though. It is a dark moment from his country's past and it's not like he's trying to glorify it or anything.

It looks to me like he wants to cash in on the torture-porn horror craze, using Auschwitz as a pretext to give him a bit of sorely needed cred.

Looking at it that way makes in completely understandable in light of the kind of director he is.

How Uwe Boll makes so MANY movies is beyond me. How is he able to walk into producer's offices and have them take him seriously anymore?

It's so good to see nazisploitation cinema making a comeback, really it is! And hey, if this movie's a success, maybe they will make Werewolf Women of the SS into a full-length feature film. That's how “Machete” got started, after all.

Shh! The more people who dismiss Boll, the more likely you might receive a boxing challenge invitation on the mail.

I always thought that was kinda sad, and hilarious. I have to yet to see him take on Seanbaby; like watching a skilled Joe Higashi player taking on button-mashing Balrog (boxer) player at the arcade.

'Controversy creates cash,' so goes the book title. Probably not the best idea though; he can make a million ‘My movie’s so much better than Toy Story 3 right now, you silly people!' responses and it'd only only get him maybe like… a few good chuckles.

Or in his case, a few more bucks at the box office. He's like the fan-fiction author that doesn't want to hear ‘Your story isn’t all that great', and would continue to churn out what he deems looks great out there. We're talking about the same guy that allegedly made so much severe alterations to the ‘Alone in the Dark’ film that was more faithful to the source (or at least respectful without taking itself too seriously). When things go bad, out comes a cheaply produced Youtube video with him and Verne Troyer pointing fingers and calling names, lol.

His fight with Lowtax - just started watching this now. xD It's pretty awful. Heh.

Anyone remember when he made some announcement that he wanted to pen a Metal Gear Solid film? And the creator was just like, “What? No! Never! We've seen his record. Not on our lives.” Or something like that.
