i'm useing gimp and i was wondering something


lets say i make someone throw a fireball at someone i want the fire ball to have faded copied of it behind it to make it look like its going fast. how would i do that?

-Duplicate the layer
-Select the bottom layer
-Filters> blur> motion blur

If you don't know stuff like that, I would suggest checking the help file or an online tutorial. Layers are pretty essential for creating decent CG art.

I don't know if you need any more help… But if you take the layer that you blurred under the first layer and move it over a bit, it'll look better, like so:



You can also use the effect for other moving things:

Dialouges>layers should bring up a box where you can select or rearrange the layers and their blending modes.


Also, if you set the blurred layer on top and change the mode to addition, you whould get a nice effect glow.

This is something that I got through smudging motion blurring and the occasional layer set to addition, overlay or screen.
