Bought this on DVD, because the cover art looked magnificent (Yeah, that's really sad) and watched, all the time think WTF.

Watched again, picked up on the things I missed. And am now obsessed with this character, but disappointed that there wasn't enough in the film about him.

They developed the villain well enough, but not enough with the hero. It felt unfinished. So, is there anymore. Anything prior to this that I have missed?

And who else really liked it.

The suit, especially the face mouth thing, is a sure winner or a hero suit.

What I really liked as well, was the way the action scenes where like they were straight out of a comic. I mean, it was perfect, right down to the talking while fighting.

Probably isn't what everyone likes, most people would like the action to flow, but I thought it was brilliant!

Are you talking about the live-action movie, or the Casshern: Robot Hunter anime.

I didn't like the movie… Like many Japanese movies it was incredibly pretentious and filled with so many Japanese cliches. Granted, there were a few enjoyable aspects, but in the end it felt like an entirely dismissable.

I like this movie ok, not the worst adaptation of Casshern, but I wish Friender had more than just a stupid 5 second cameo. Friender is what makes Casshern awesome.

I also missed the whole human enslavement aspect of it.

The cinematagraphy was nice to look at though.
without buttcheecks, it's just a hole.

The movie was to over-dramatic. Like it was some kinda Mexican soap opera or something. The whole anime is about an augmented human who fights evil robots and cyborgs on a post-apocalyptic Earth. The movie went a different direction and added all this melodrama.

From what I heard, the director created the film based on an anime he liked in his childhood (the one everyone else has mentioned).

Unfortunately, the movie was hugely unsuccessful, costing much more than the revenue it actually made, so there is no way they will produce a sequel.

Or that's what I've gathered from the Japanese entertainment news… My friends always tell me to never trust Japanese TV though, so this all might not be true, lol.

Whether they make another movie or not, Japan seems to be reviving a lot of older series with more recent remakes and Casshern was one of those series. The new series isn't bad. They released it in time to coincide with the Tatsunoko vs Capcom release.

I saw the movie about a year ago and don't remember THAT much from it. I do remember that despite a pretty low budget, they were able to pull off a pretty sleak look for the film using some simple after-effects tricks. I remember the fight scenes being really bad. And it seemed like they didn't enough time to properly develop the story too.
