Corel Paint, what I can say about it that Corel is known for Corel Draw which is a professional vector art program, and Corel Paint is a free add on to Corel Draw that is NOT used by anyone professionally.

Gimp is free and is used by a few professionals, it's roughly the equivelant of photoshop 4.0. Gimpshop will give it an interface similar to photoshop.

That said, Corelpaint is fairly straight foward, tho I can't say I've used it. I did install it once and looked at it. There should be a tutorial built into the program to walk you thru what the program can do.

It will work with a wacom tablet, you should look into getting one if you see yourself doing much art with a computer.

here are some turotials online:

Oh, If you meant Corel Painter, which Corel BOUGHT….

I don't much like painter, but the perspective grid thingie is worth the price of admission all by itself.

I finally have a system that can run painter8 and I can't find a simple quality brush ink emulation, The “emulation” is of everything that can go wrong with natural media: stray hairs, randomed ink dollops (from not rolling brush to a point on paper) and so forth -blecch!

Here's the good tutorial link. http://www.vtc.com/products/painter8.htm

(it's free as the latest painter is painter9)
