It's because when you scanned in your page it was scanned in at 300 dpi, which ends up HUGE when on a computer monitor. Choices are:

(1) Resize the image: Simple enough, just open your image in any image editing program (Photoshop, GIMP, etc.) and then just use that to change the size of your image. Hopefully you can figure that out from there.

(2) Scan in at a lower resolution: Most scanners have a setting somewhere to change the resolution of the image before you scan it. Just change it from 300 to around 72. Then the next time you scan it will scan in a much smaller image.

A lot of people seem to make this mistake on their first pages, so if you look through some of the old posts around here you'll probably find someone who's explained it much better than me :D!

EDIT: Ah, here I found this. Mattchee's post there should be a little more helpful if you go for choice 1. http://www.drunkduck.com/community/view_topic.php?tid=51364&cid=238

or if ya only got paint you can resize it there by going to image, sketch/skew, and entering in the percent at which you want to decrease it.
