As for the judging/voting…I had to give that a lot of thought, so I apologize for a non-quick answer. I really think popular vote is the way to do it rather than a panel of judges. That mostly stems from me thinking the US Electoral College is unbelievably silly. I'm always happy to hear your opinions on the matter, though, so I'm not setting anything in stone until August 1 (when the nomination form is official).

I'd like to have presenters though, like last time - people who volunteer to make a couple pages announcing the top five - maybe recognize some other strong contenders - and some big showy thing announcing the winner.

You still need to make sure the code stipulates one vote per member. As someone mentioned above, people will be in here clicking all day long on their favorite.

Do you have a category for dramatic series, or gay/lesbian? There are a number of lesbian series hosted here right now that I'd have a hard time deciding who to vote for!! I've formatted my own series for a teen demographic, so I'd sure hate to be out of the running, but I need to take a look around and see if there are any other series in those categories out there.

Hmm, I could do a golden duck or something. We'll see! If someone else wants to volunteer to draw that, though, that would be ever better ^.^

HouseofMuses, there was no specific gay/lesbian category - most of those stories fall pretty neatly into adventure, slice of life, romance, etc sort of categories.

And yeah…I don't know how to code for only allowing one vote per user. That's a bit above my skill level - panels would be ideal. We're in crunch time though!

Quick, guys! Who wants to help with panels? I am completely willing to scope out any and all comics in any category except ones where I might end up being a finalist.

I can help, but I have to know exactly what I'd have to do.
When Mireille Bouquet jumps into a lake, she doesn't get wet. The water gets Mireille Bouquet!

In Soviet Russia, Freakenburg and Telenime will be relaunched by YOU!!!

BlkKnight, Iba, and I will be tallying votes Monday and Tuesday. After we have the top five finalists in each category, as a judge/panelist, you'd review the five comics and decide which one would win. You don't have to rank all of them, just choose the best.

maybe we could have a golden duck lying in a bathtub with a bottle in its hand onto of a roman column… too imaginative?

I like it, but it might be a bit beyond my skill level to draw ^.^

BetaJess suggested a golden shot glass with a duck head on it. PatrickDevine drew a flask with a duck logo.

Any of those sound appealing?

Give me a quick day or two and I can probably come up with another duck award idea or two that's at least mildly amusing. That sort of stuff appeals to my style so I can probably crank out a few to choose from.

I'll be more than glad to panel. From what I remember I'm not in danger of being a finalists in any categories, so no real worries there.

Let me know if you need more panel judges or if someone needs to draw the Golden Duck award.

If you can't get any others for either I'll fill in.

I'm glad to have any and all volunteers for panels! I'll let you know if there are any panels that certain people can't sit in on ^.^
So exciting! I'll be shutting down the votes in about 1.5 hours! Tallying/narrowing down to five will take a day or two.

I don't think I'm a particularly good judge, but if you still need more help, I'd be happy to try.

I'd love your help, too, Vickie!

Voting is closed! BlkKnight, Iba, and I are hard at work compiling, tallying, etc to get the top five nominees in each category. The friendly/helpful/funny user categories will still be done by popular vote. I'm hoping that we have all the nominees by Wednesday!

Okay, executive decision! For the trophy, we'll go with a gold duck - something like this:

I'll incorporate it into the logo/layout/award banners/icons/whatever.

Do we want to do an illustration of said ducky? Or do we want to go with the photo? I can do an illustration and have it done by about midnight tonight. But if that's not quick enough we might just want to go with the photo.

Iba, I would infinitely prefer a drawn design ^.^
I've already used this one (the greyscale version - it looks SILVER) on the page I'm designing, but I'd love the drawn one for banners and icons and such.

Also, if anyone is interested to see what the page design looks like so far, head over to the DD Awards page (my sig banner links to it). Feedback is greatly appreciated =]

Good! That shows a complete lack of discrimination–which is why I love this site.

I'll look into some votecasting software. Not sure what I'll come up with, but since time is essential–and those things are usually code-heavy–I'll let you know what I find by Saturday afternoon.

Being a panelist is a blast! These comics are great. Some of the pages in the Best Antagonist category still have me giggling.

It might be tomorrow morning for that illustrated ducky. I've run into a few problems with Photoshop shutting down at random moments and I have to reinstall it, which could take a while. I'll get a high res copy to you as soon as humanly possible amanda.
