whether music, TV or film. meaning that it pops into your head while you're just living your hum-drum life.

Mine: “What we have here is a failure to communicate.” It pops up SO many times, whether I'm at work or talking with family or friends.

And I hope everyone knows what film it's from because, frankly my dear, if you don't know, you're just not properly ed-ju-ma-cated

-What is best in life?
-To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Ayes' quote shows cool.
Lefarce's quote shows douche.
My quote shows dorkiness.

————–
Actually, that doesn't pop into my head too much… but this one does a lot:

“Working doesn't seem to be the perfect thing for me so I'll continue to play
And if I'm so bad why don't they take me away?” -The universal, Small Faces.

And this:
“I get up when I want except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by the dustmen, I put my trousers on, have a cup of tea and I think about leaving the house…
I feed the pigeons I sometimes feed the sparrows too.
It gives me a sense of enormous well being.
And then I'm happy for the rest of the day safe in the knowledge, there will always be a bit of my heart devoted to it.” Park Life, Blur.

Fyi OP, the quote is “What we've got here is failure to communicate.” That and “No, I am your father” tend to get misquoted a lot.

“To a New Yorker like you a hero is some kinda weird sandwich not a guy who takes on three Tigers.”

“Always with the negative waves can't you think of something righteous?”

Oddball from Kelly's Heroes. Most tankcrewman identify with that guy and love the movie.

Even geekier? For Ozone's quote that's actually attributed to Ghenghis Khan (from his autobiography) and in the script that is who Conan was talking to.

"A leader can afford to be wrong, but he cannot afford to be indecisive."

I may have misquoted that slightly (it's from 2010, the very average sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey). I no longer work in an office environment but, when I did, there seemed to be so many occasions when I wanted to shout that at certain managers!

Also:

"A wise man goes when he can, a fool goes when he must."

Variously attributed to anyone and everyone from Confucius to Prince Phillip. If you've ever needed a toilet and been unable to find one, you'll appreciate it's probably the most sound advice you could ever give to anyone!

It's an in-the-office day, so there's two:

I Don't Want To Work / I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day

and

It’s good to be the king
*unfortunately, I am not thinking of myself with the second line*

Blindsk: oh yeah, that's a frequent one for me, too

LeFace: no guarantee that my quotes are spot-on, so nice to be able to count on you for corrective action.
btw, Wikipedia notes that the line “What we've got here is failure to communicate” is said by the captain and the line “What we've got here is a failure to communicate” is said by Luke later on.

“Whyfor did you bury me in the cold cold ground”

“That's actually hilarious”

Also my dad and I are really bad for spontaneously re-creating scenes from SCTV.

And this isn't exactly a line, but there's a bit in The Rear Window where the main character is blinding the scary guy with the flash on his camera. That gets imitated a lot in my house.

There are lots more, though.

A song lyric that I always liked, well since the song came out in 09 anyway.

Hahaha

That reminds me of my fave line in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life:

-How do you feel?
Better.
-Better?
Better get a bucket!

I've used that… quite a few times :)

In conan he is a slave at that point and fights as a gladiator, his master asks the question.

In the notes the master is referred to as the Mongol King. Millius is a huge military history buff and especially into Ghenghis Khan. :)

“I'm here to do two things; kick ass and chew bubble gum and I'm all out of bubblegum.” They Live.

“Good? Evil? I'm the guy with the gun.” Army of Darkness

“Retreat? Hell, we're just attacking in the opposite direction.” Retreat Hell (Col. Chesty Puller)

Yeah, the idea was to have them based on Mongol type people, but of course nothing is literal because the period is a made up time before recorded history.

Conan's buddy in the film was called Subotai -which is of course the name of one of Genghis Kahn's most famous generals. Played by famous surfer and first time actor Gerry Lopez, who was Millius's friend after he had a part in the surfing film Big Wednesday. He did a great job, especially for a non-actor.

“Seems”, madam? nay it is; I know not "seems". (said with a VERY sneary mental voice)

…Inappropriate since it's extremely dorky top quote Hamlet, especially since it's very unlikely that anyone would really get what you mean by them, but they still pop into my head at the right moments anyway. :(

Ace: Sir, I don't understand. What goods' a knife in a nuke fight? All you have to do is press a button, sir.

Career Sergeant Zim: Put your hand on that wall trooper. PUT YOUR HAND ON THAT WALL!

Career Sergeant Zim: The enemy can not press a button… if you have disabled his hand. Medic!

A classic exchange from starship troopers.

I am a slave - what would you have me do?

This one's captured so many different moments (but it requires your best Tanya Roberts voice).

I usually quote the Genie from the old classic Thief of Baghdad.

“So as you say, so shall it be!”

Said in your best strong baritone with a flourish.

Now ZOIDBERG is the winner!

Actually, Futurama is the source of many of my favorite lines. I'm sure I'm fond of many more important sounding quotes, but nothing beats a good “If I die, tell my wife hello” and “My only regret is that I have boneitis.”

We're much luckier that we haven't gotten buried under a flurry of lines from Full Metal Jacket yet.

“I shall kill you until you are dead!” Any number of movies but for me it's Saddam Hussein in Hot Shots Part Deux.

“Mongo just pawn in game of life.” Blazing Saddles.

I'm just glad we haven't gotten an avalanche of Monty Python lines. Then again, I know quite a few people who are sick of Holy Grail being quoted to death. I think they might outnumber the quoters now.

Hm…Monty Python you say?

“Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of coal poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down at the mill, and pay mill for permission to come to work and when we got home, our dad would kill us and dance about on our graves.”

Not that I really hear that quote specifically, but sometimes it's very close. ;)
