i just bought the DVD of it. i must say the fighting scenes are spectacular…although I could have done it without all that emo crap. There were so many, i just fast forward through it. and the editing was crap, it jumped too much and that annoying noise when sepiroth was coming.

just fight already!!!

Graphically, only one thing bugged me. The lips were obviously syched with the sounds, but… The jaws didn't seem to move at all! Just the lips, it really got on my nerves.

I wish Red XIII had more lines…

MY REVIEW OF FINAL FANTASY VII: ADVENT CHILDREN

Fight scenes = epic

Plot = dogshit

This pretty much sums up the movie.

We watched it in anime club last year. I mean, I thought the graphics were really cool but I didn't understand any of the plot because I haven't played any FF games. It was basically “Woah did that guy just jump THAT high?” over and over again.

Yeah. Pretty much, I agree with them. –^

The graphics were gorgeous, I've watched the movie three times now just to goggle at the sheer prettiness of it. But the story? Bleh. I've played FF7 and I didn't like the original story either - no big surprise that I'm also not particularly interested in the continuation of it.

Cid and Red XIII needed more airtime. And the movie needed Professor Hojo. I don't care if they had to ressurect him as a flesh eating zombie, just put him in!

Even with having played the game the plot didn’t make a lot of sense. The visuals make it worth at least a rent though. Oh, and the music is pretty awesome. The Black Mages pretty much rock.

I'm also doing that other comic "Space Waffles".
We now have a podcast called The Random Pirate Comics Show!

Did you guys know they're going to rerelease Advent Children again with a few added scenes? Apparently they wanted to flesh the movie out a little more and address some of the story's problems. All those loyal FF nuts who eagerly bought the original will be compelled to buy the movie again because Square didn't put out a finished product the first time.

And I agree with the general consensus… great eyecandy, awful story.

Cloud was kind of emo in the video game but man, he was ridiculously emo in the movie…and oh so very feminine.

the fight scenes are so good that they do almost make up for the complete lack of plot or direction though.

i don't think anything is gonna make up for the lackluster story. it would prolly water it down some more…i'd buy it if there were more fighting scenes

I first saw it when a friend downloaded it (yea, a friend did it). It was subbed, of course, and as such i thought it rocked. After i got my psp, i bought it for the hell of it and was like WTF??!! It seems that dubbing not only screws up anime, but all media in the process. The plot could've used some twinking, but it was easy to follow. And the fights were awesome!

I think that's the first time I've heard someone say that the plot was easy to follow. Well, I guess the sequence of events proceeded more or less naturally; it was just the “Why” that got lost.

The problem with this (and also, in Spirits Within) is that it was written like a videogame, which can take as long as it wants to explain things and, even then, the whole of the story isn't required to enjoy the product. Even moreso, in fact, since Square seems to be putting that extra effort into making that the movies are that much more “epic”. I'd really like to see the Square crew tackle more projects written by third parties, with a bit more of a sense of what does or does not work in movie format.

You could tell this flick was written by videogame writers.
That doesn't excuse the horrible story, but I think they should have looked for a film writer to hook this up.
It was visually stunning and the fight scenes were absolutely amazing.
But, yeah, the story ruined it.

I guess I should really watch this movie then. It sounds like it meets every expectation I had of it from the day I heard they were making it (back when it was still just a half hour direct to video project). I just don't understand why so many people expected this to be a good movie.

I'll concur with the general opinion: fantastic graphics, zero story. Although Reno and Rude's parts were pretty funny for the most part.

And I'm personally disappointed that Yuffie got all of two lines. But, that's just me.
Spritely - for all your funny needs.
Total Immersion - for all your Pokemon-centric pseudo-romantic story needs.

Something for everyone!

I'm furious about how little I've seen of Red XIII in the compilation project so far.
I mean… honestly! There should be a whole series of games for him! Not a single line in a movie and a cameo after the credits of DoC! This is an outrage!
