Good Image editing software?

Currently I use for all my editing needs, and I was wondering if anybody knew of any free image editing software beside GIMP. The main things I need the software for are for fixing it up after scanning (which I can do with the software with the scanner, so that's not a problem) and creating speech bubbles and text. Anyone know of any good software for this?

I use the Adobe suite so I'm not that much help.

Have you looked at It's almost Photoshop.
That's “Dr. BlkKnight” to all of you.

I find Gimp best, sorry that doesn't help but for cleaning up images and speech bubbles I consider it better/easier than photoshop.

Also take a look at inkscape, there are some good tutorials around for that too.

Paint.NET is a pretty good one, I find.

Here's a few you can try.

Pixia works fairly well and is fairly well featured and supported and is completely free. Its more about art than photos, so it may be closer to what you want.

OpenCanvas 1.1 is old, but can still work for some folk. Its also got the nifty collaborative drawing functionality still in it.

Inkscape was already mentioned, and vector is usually the best way to go for things like talk bubbles and text.

I have a webcomic making blog! Check it out.
