This interview is of Anubis, whose comics are: Blood Bound and Anubis Dreams!
(interview conducted by spearcarrier!)

Spearcarrier asks Anubis close and personal questions about his comic, Bloodbound, and the sexy demonic characters that live within. The story is below.

Q. Where did you get the idea of Bloodbound? Was it a lust for sexy demon chicks or a backlash against someone stupid in your life?

A. It originated from a painting by Victoria Frances. I wanted to see if I can make something similar using DAZ Studio, and while it was an epic fail, the pink-haired crying vampire just got me *taps chest* right here. And suddenly I had the idea for a short comic *mostly porn*

Q. Why “Bloodbound”? I mean, obviously there's a vampire (or two) in the comic but lots of vampire comics are named without referring to being bound by oozing carpuscles. Why that particular name?

A. I tried to think of a title, and it was the first one that came to mind. Jinni's name came about in a similar way. I get word a day emails from a dictionary website. The day I was to announce Jinni's name…well I didn't have one. Then word aday arrived. and well the word was jinni (aramaic for demon)

Q. How long have you been at it?

A. Ohhhhh for a 6 month comic its been going for like 3 years

Q. Was there a time you ever felt like giving up?

A. Oh yes, early on I was only using Comic Genesis and well I wasnt gettting any feedback from readers (I knew I had readers they just didnt tell me anything) then when I found Drunk Duck and saw people comment I went YAY! and thus Bloodbound was saved!

Q. Why did you choose a 3D posing platform to make the comic with?

A. Short answer…I cant draw, Long answer… I have a brain injury that makes it difficult to draw so I use a medium I can use.

Q. Is it very difficult to develop your characters?

A. Depends on the charators. they are constantly growing. Even charators that were never ment to be more than backdrop (Like Sassy, who spent the first year of life as "Generic Succubus)

Q. Have you ever felt like your characters weren't cooperating for a reason?

A. All the freaking time. This was supposed to be a porno! Not some long epic!

Q. What do you think the most difficult part of making Bloodbound would be?

A. Scripting. I am not very creative.

Q. One interesting thing about Bloodbound is your use of color. Most of the comic is in black and white, but you do occasionally throw in a splash of color such as the color of Jinni's hair (pink) or the splatter of red blood. Is this a style effect or is there something you're trying to achieve (like in the Sixth Sense)?

A. Sixth Sense? Well to be honest I just wanted to try something I hadn't seen (little did I know that some other comic… uhhh Sin City I think… does something similar). I try to colour something that may be important to the story or will convey or induce an emotional responce

Q. Let's talk about Jinni and Sassy. Which is your favorite?

A. I can plead the fifth?

Q. Are there any “real life” inspirations that helped Jinni and Sassy become who they are?

A. There could be people that's characteristics may have been integrated into those two.

Q. If you were to meet Jinni and Sassy on the street, which one would you ask out first?

A. I value my life

Q. If Jinni and Sassy were to have a mud wrestling match, who do you think would win?

A. Prolly Sassy. She's done it before.

Q. Let's talk about the other characters, like Christine. Did they just grow like mold, or are they intentional back drops?

A. They were (like Sassy) nothing more than backdrops but they are also developing. Christine was intended to be like a home base for Jinni after Jinni goes out and does horrible things to guys and girls. Now Christine has her own sort of story.

Q. Is there any particular part in your comic that you like the best so far?

A. Hmmmmm … That Kisss Oh you know it when succubus lips met vampire lips. That and the Tattoos.

Q. Have you ever used Bloodbound as a way to fantasize revenge? =^-^=

A. Revenge? On whom? I am sweet and gentle.

Q. Recently you've seen some success. I am given to understand Bloodbound was invited to be on some sort of ipod comic viewing system. Tell us a little bit about that.

A. Well a company that does it emailed me about doing a revinue sharing and so I send them comic pages and they turn it into a ipod/iphone ready format. The first one is a freebee after that I think its about .99c per comic book.

Q. Lately, Bloodbound seems to be taking a new arc. You've recently lost a character and revealed various plotlines which could spell “doom”, “revenge”, or even “world take-over” sometime in the future. Is there anything you would like to say about that?

A. I like traffic lights.

Q. If someone were to offer you a million dollars to stop making Bloodbound, would you?

A. A million dollars. hmmmm that would last 3 weeks in our current economy? Nahhhh!

Q. If adult comics were made illegal, would you stop or go underground?

A. I am underground. I do this from my top secret lair under Woomera nuclear testing range!

Thanks! I tried. :-) After the busy season I might do another for the fun of it. I like giving interviews. I had thought about translating the interview into stick figure comic format, but …
