December 5th, people. If this was a year ago I would be so much more excited than I am now, but still. Hellsing Ultimate has been a LOONG time coming.

Basically here's a rundown of what Hellsing is: Every violent thing ever packed into one anime. This is the kind of stuff which would make Emerson and Ghandi lose faith in the human race, but it's still great entertainment, as long as you're really really jaded.

Anyway I'll probably ask for this for Christmas, just because. Don't look for a moral in this stuff though. There isn't any.

It's basically everything from the first TV series, except more accurate to the manga (such as having more humor mixed in, which the first series lacked severely).

God, the first series was awful. It's one of those things our anime club watched just to laugh at. This is actually good though.

Here's the trailer:

And…here's the English trailer…which is so much less awesome.

I dunno, as for the English cast I kind of like Integra's voice, Walters voice, and Alucard is alright, but I really dislike Sereas' voice. I've always thought she was a kind of lame character anyway, but this doesn't even do her justice. And Anderson sound terrible. He should be MUCH more gruff.

People keep telling me that, but I just don't see it. I loved the first series. Of course, I saw it before reading the manga, and I have to admit I liked the direction the story went there more (with the nazis and everything), but I understand why the first series went its own way.

Hellsing was depraved, sick, frightening, left tight knots in the stomach of anyone with a decent sense of civility, and tore away the thin veil that seperates sentience from animal instinct.

…In short, it's one of the most awesome series out there…and this new OVA looks GOOD. *whimpers*But I can't afford it!

So did I, but I just feel like I should own it. I guess kind of for brand loyalty issues, but also because I want to see the next parts animated really badly and I want to have the complete set at the end.

There's the problem… If they replaced all the violence with sex, well I'd be right on it. But no… Killing will always be more acceptable than procreating :(
Hellsing needs more love.

Seriously, the pointless bloody violence keeps me away from the series.

I'd normally agree with you, especially if this were live action, but I've become completely desensitized to animated violence.

In the defense of the creator, the comic was started in 1998.

I'm not sure that really makes it any less cliche. Go Nagai made Nazis a pretty common villain stereotype in the 70's and 80's. There was quite a bit of manga and animation in the 80's and 90's which followed suit, even before Hellsing was put to paper.

Meanwhile Wonder Woman and Captain America had already done it to death on the other side of the Pacific ocean.

I agree that Nazis as villains are almost too easy, but the alternative of some kind of bizarre Death-God/Vampire hybrid (or whatever it was that Al ended up fighting at the end of the first animation) is apparently a horrible idea, if you're the type to believe the most vocal opinions.

Hellsing and Hellboy are kind of similar in that way too, except Hellboy does it on a much smaller scale, the character is more likeable than Alucard.

Personally, I don't think you're supposed to get too personally attached to Alucard. He's mostly standoff-ish and, if anything, is more of a Plot Point than a Main Character. Sort of like how Kingdom Come tells the story of Superman, Batman, etc.; but really the “main” character is Norman McCay; a normal human who just ends up caught up in the whole thing.

It'd be interesting to see Father Nightroad from Trinity Blood go up against Arucard. He's a vampire who feeds off of other vampires.
