Late at night your options for decent television programming drastically diminish. You've got Adult Swim and Sci-Fi plays Twilight Zone fairly late/early…also TV Land spares the viewer from Girls Gone Drunk and Power Juicers, often producin' some quality 'Trek (dependin' on how severe your insomnia.)

But, earlier in the evening—skies the limit. Often, Ethan and I will just leave the TV. goin' and frequently it ends up on Comedy Central. (We don't have kids yet, so it's perfectly okay that Comedy Central is playin' in the background.) We watch; The Daily Show (and the past few days have also enjoyed, The Colbert Report…I really think Steve has finally nailed his shtick) Well, tonight Comedy Central's latest “comedy” show, Halfway Home, was on. We have chosen not to watch this show before (believed it to be a shabby attempt to emulate…Reno 911–but, falling short.) Well, tonight we watched it and it was one of the most entertaining things I have seen on television in some time.

For those that don't know: Halfway Home is a new television show that follows the lives of a handful of ex cons recently released from the pen and livin' at a halfway house under the supervision of inept Kenny Carlisle. All the actors are quite funny, the writing (or is it improved?) could be funnier, and certain aspects of the photography direction annoy me. But the actors are really trying.

One of the subplots of the episode that Ethan and I watched this rainy Wednesday evening, was that one of the five felons that are required to hang their hats at the Crenshaw halfway house decided to give up weed.

Carly Carlisle (played by a talented virtual unknown, Jessica Makinson) who resides with fellow felons: Serenity Johnson, guilty of robbery and assault; Eulogio Pla, a manwhore; Alan Shepard, a deranged arsonist; and Sebastian “C-Bass” Yates, convicted of identity theft and played by Jordan Black, an actor I've not seen before; but, one of the funnier aspects of the show.

The episode we watched was called, Halfway High School. The plot was that the residents of Crenshaw House, in an inspired decision decided to get their General Education Diplomas. Carly decides to give up that sweet, sweet cheeba, ('cause she really wants to pass and they tell her she's “legally retarded” ) which at first seems like a good idea. Makinson's portrayal of that type of “pothead” was one of the funniest weed jokes I have ever seen.

Although initially, bein' off the herb turns her into freakin' Einstein, her inability to relax and make those bombarding thoughts take a breather, turns her character into a maniacal angry annoyed bitch, scaring all those that even accidentally cross her path. (Strangely familiar) Carly becomes such the monster that upon suggestion from Kenny (the guy in charge) the housemates bond together to deliver the much needed “water pipe!” (The Thought Police might be watchin' )

I give this show, three out of five lollypops. It may take a few more licks to get to that Tootsie Roll Center, and you may find it's nothin' more than a little nub of toot, 'have to wait and see.

As long as Drawn Together is off the air I'm happy.

Ugh. You have got to be kidding. I'd rather watch Sara Silverman. Not her sucky show, but her. ;)

It's a good show. Not great, but nothing is great right after South Park.
