Hershey outsources to Mexico. 1500 jobs lost.

I will never eat Hershey chocolate ever again.

Hershey's chocolate is horrible anyway. I couldn't appreciate that until I moved to England though, where the standard is a higher quality of chocolate. Hershey's is sort of like, cardboard chocolate. Made of chocolate scrapings and mouse poop.

So is there really much manufacturing left in the US at all? I mean, from a business standpoint I can understand why every company is moving to Mexico, but that's pretty crappy for people here who need jobs. I'm not sure how the government expects Americans to be a consumer culture when soon enough a large percentage of them won't even have a source of income.

You know you're life's in the runs when your job making chocolate bars has eben taken away.

with all the outsourcing we either need to get the message quick and start bringing out industry back (and cutting unions from the list) or we're bound to fall apart in…I'd say thirty years.
I'm way too cynical for a 16 year old… -.-

The chocolate buisness is a brutal buisness….I learned this from watching ‘The Chocolate Wars’ on one of the learning channels.

My uncle (who now has a better job, so its okay) lost his job a while back becuase of something like this….only he made refridgerators.

hershey's was always yucky anyway; if you want chocolatey deliciousness, try Toblerone. Toblerone: chocolatey deliciousness. ah toblerone. yum.

hey, remember that song by the gershwin brothers? “they all laughed”?

“They all laughed Fulton and his steamboat, Hershey and his chocolate bar
Ford and his Lizzie, kept the laughers busy, that's how people are!”

It's a shame, the origonal Mr. Hershey was a humanitarian, building schools and adopting orphans and things like that. The same thing happened with Kodak a few years ago.

Hm…I guess I should stop buying the stuff then. Damn. Hershey was just starting make good chocolate with fruits and nuts in them with dark chocolate and everything.

I think I'll die one day of chocolate overdose.

America is going to hell in a handbasket. I have something I have been wanting to put out…what if on Labor Day weekend, b/c its 3 days, we could get enough info out and get lots of Americans to not drive or buy gasoline, hershey bars, or pretty much everything else, a 3 day boycott. We need to make ourselves heard again as a mass of people, government and buisness are meant to serve us, not for us to serve them. It is past time for a change!!!

Whatduya think it'd accomplish? anything? :> or do you think we'd face some sort of backlash…with intention of hurting the mass populace, kinda “I'll teach you to rise up” sort of beat down? We have a 21st century Civil Rights problem, little of it has to do with racism, but more about our rights and our state of being. The income class gap is becoming bigger than the grand canyon…power is of the people, it comes from the people and must be given back to the people!!!

To what end? Eventually, (I hope) these corporations are going to impode on themselves. If a laid off worker is low on money, I would think ‘chocolate’ may not be high on the wish list.

You can't escape it, though. It's everywhere and done with everything:

Hershey has been sucking anyway… Recently, they (and some other companies) were trying to make cheaper chocolate without cocoa. That is worse than chocolate heresy…

corporations go down, so does the country and the economy.
That doesn't make any sense.

there might be corporations that create a negative impact, but without them the mom and pop stores won't be able to keep the economy up. Corporations make millions or even billions of dollars for the country from trades within the country and outside.

“Ma's convenient store” won't be able to synergize with japanese merchandisers because they won't be able to afford importing/researching/marketing thier products.

Corporations can afford to make cheaper products because they can buy in bulk and then they are able to put up the assests for loans to invest on a factory that can have an assembly line that uses those japanese products into a computer, cars..etc.

unless this country is going to switch to communism to support it's people, then there is a need for corporations. besides, communism only creates one big governmental corporation. You wouldn't be able to pick and choice between products.

stagnation of the economy comes with less competition. With more corporations, they will most likley give the costumers better deals and products to compete with other corporations. and when corporations can't compete, they die out.

I totally disagree sub. Corporations stifle free enterprise, create monopolies, and get away with murder. They exploit third world countries and get tax breaks. They are actually considered “people” by the word of law, yet they are virtually untouchable from any law. We'd be better off without them. At least, what they are right now.

and yet, 95% of the things in your house is made from corporations.
you're benefiting from it.

so unless something better comes along… it's the best with what we've got.
there's not gonna be a magical answer to it, but there are law bieng passed and cases that help protect people from the more horrible corporations.

but like a country, it only does what the higher ups say.

Hershey outsources to Mexico. 1500 jobs lost.

And thus the Pennsylvania job market gets screwed over even more. With Sony shutting their plant down soon and now this BS, Pennsylvania is going to be a terrible terrible place to find work soon.

Seriously, noone should give a shit about the chocolate as much as what this is doing to the PA job market. It is quite literally DEAD NOW! With this, it will be beyond dead! People will be fighting over friggin' jobs at fast food joints before long.

2. Is Hershey Park still there? Chocolate World?

3. Thank you marine. Thank you. I missed that episode, and that vidieo makes me laugh everytime I see it.

What makes this story such a travisty is that poor old, Milton Hershey really tried his little chocolate lovin' heart out to create an American icon (and did so, for a long time.) He was much more into what his chocolate stood for, as opposed to the bottom line. I'll probably still eat Hershey's, they are cheap and classic. I don't want to know how the cow gets to my McDonalds, I just wanna' have my meat.

i havn't eaten hershey in years cuz it tastes like dirt, maybe some dirt tastes better .
maybe Mexico can make it taste better !

as far as the job loss goes , all i can realy say is “serves them right” realy what is it going to take for Americans to wake up and realize their country is swirling around the bottom of the toilet ! ?! it's Americans faults for not being informed and not caring enough to vote and act in their own interests and the interests of the whole country and the future !

besides Hershey has been outsourcing the production of COCOA for years !!!
