HOW can hollywood mess up the Spider-Man costume?!

I dunno if anyone posted this yet but to the non-fanboys who don't know it, they're rebooting the Spider-Man movies. I found this pic yesterday:

As soon as I saw this I said “Oh c'mon!” and picked apart a million differences to the comic costume. I'm not sayin' it's bad I'm just surprised they would go that far, I mean spidey's costume is as iconic as Superman's, you can't just change it!

I dunno, what do you guys think?

I don't have a problem with it based on that, it was obvious it was going to be a bit different from the suit in the Raimi films. And of course it couldn't be too faithful to the comics as that would look pants like the 70s a version.

Yeah, that looks fine to me. I'd guess the colours won't actually be as dark as they appear here since (a) it seems to be night and (b) the costume's wet. A dry costume in daylight will presumably be closer to the comic version, but I don't have a problem with it as it stands.

As for Spidey's pyjamas being as iconic as Superman's, I think that's debatable but, since the comparison's been made, let's not forget how much fanboy controversy there was over Brandon Routh's suit when the first pics of that were released. It was the wrong shade of blue, the wrong shade of red, the insignia shouldn't be embossed, etc, etc.

Sometimes it's best to just suck it up and wait for the movie. The one thing you can be reasonably sure about is that, whether the film turns out to be any good or not, it's success or failure won't be because the costume wasn't a pixel-perfect copy of the print version.

It's that I'm not going to see it.
-THAT is the one thing you can be reasonably sure about. ;)

Now if only Hollywood would do more stuff like Scott Pilgrim… or even Pinky TA.
Those are the comic book movies for me ^__^

Pants like the 70's indeed.
I refuse to see this movie until flare pants AND straight legged which come up to the belly button are worn by all characters.

I don't have a problem with it. But then, I don't read the comics or care about accuracy. And I've always felt that a 100% accurate adaptation would not be a good movie.

The problem is that they're rebooting a movie series so soon, after a series of movies that did plenty of things right. But because they're rebooting and so soon, they have to change things.

They have to do a reboot so soon, rather than Spiderman 4, because Raimi basically said “F YOU” to everyone (producers, audiences, and fanboys) with S3. Seriously you can't tell me that Raimi showed any respect to the source material or to non-braindead audiences, when he made S3. It's almost as terrible as X-men 3.

As for the costume… I've no problem with it whatsoever.

(1) It doesn't have nipples.
(2) Spiderman's comics costume has evolved over the years. And I'm not talking about the black costume.
(3) It seems to be going for darker/edgier. Have to see the movie to judge.

The suit looks fine and retains all the iconic elements of the spider-man costumes (red/blue patterns, webs, spider-logo). Not to mention it looks way better than half the stupid crap Peter has put on himself in the last few decades. Already looks better than the previous movie series. I just hope the mask looks good, that's my biggest concern. Also hell yes, mechanical webshooters.

Yes and no. It's tough to follow the third film considering the whole Batman & Robin effect. Once you make a bad comic book movie in a series, you're doomed to start over.

However, the main reason they're rebooting so soon is because ceasing production on Spider-Man movies would result in the property rights reverting to Marvel's ownership. This is the same reason why X-men First Class is getting made, as well as why it contains so many characters (to ensure those characters gain exclusivity to Sony pictures rather than Marvel).

Other than it reminds me of a rubber floor mat to prevent slipping, it really seems alright. It's over textured, sure, but it doesn't seem like a big issue.

What I'm interested in is not what the suit looks like, but what's in the suit (eh, that sounds awkward, but whatever).

The pathetic casting choice for the previous adaption seriously ruined it for me. Otherwise, I would've genuinely enjoyed all three of them. I mean, seriously…those are what we call actors/actresses these days?! Most of them didn't fit the part at all! Except of course Willem Defoe and James Franco, they were awesome.

Anyway, Andrew Garfield was a great choice, and I'm excited to see him in this role.

Aside from texture, how is that suit any different from all other comics/movie spandex suits?

In fact, that texture is what separates it from Batman's blatant black leather.

The only thing which bothers me about the Spiderman constumes from the movies is that Peter Parker is a self-made hero. He spends all that time designing the costume, but barely has the tailoring skills to make the really crappy costume from the first movie. So where the fuck does he get these costumes? Somehow I doubt he had the materials and the means to construct those suits in his dorm room.

Also, is it just me, or does it look like he actually has web shooters this time around?

Seeing that spider-man's suit has already been translated to movies almost flawlessly, my guess was they were just gonna recreate the way it looked in the comics(with maybe a few tweaks here and there) and Batman's suit isn't leather, it's armor(unless it's pre-batman begins, then it's rubber XD)

Honestly I have faith in the film, but that doesn't make me like the changes, And superman's costume wasn't changed as much as spidey's in this.

Looking at this pic I would guess that he just went to a fetish shop- in whatever fantasy version of the “real world” this is supposed to take place :)

You have to remember, this version of Spider-Man has the benefit of being able to have 6 or 7 seasons of Project Runway at his disposal. So that alone is going to increase his designing capabilities by at least 10%

lol! That's what I first thought of too! But then Spidey could use a textured suit to better stick to stuff?

Does this mean he has “Welcome” plastered across his back?

Very naughty when taken with this…

Maybe not so straight…? :)

Really though, I love costume design and stitching around with clothes, but I'd be hard pressed to make something like that. You would need professional skills and connections to be able to source just exactly the fabrics you wanted (in the right colours too!), as well as at least one assistant- making perfectly fitted skin-tight garments all by yourself would be quite a challenge.

Easier if you've got a good fetish shop near you.

Are you telling me that J.K. Simmons was a bad casting choice?

Speaking of Jameson, I've heard that he's not gonna be in this movie. I guess that means that this is before Peter starts working part time at the Bugle.

Also; regarding the possibility of the suit containing web shooters. While that would be truer to the source material, it always made me wonder how the hell Parker managed to construct something as ridiculously sophisticated as that. As a result, I was never really bummed out about the idea of granting Parker a natural ability to make his own webbing.

And a final note. This movie better introduce witty Spiderman ><
Those were my two cents.

I got the impression he meant Tobey macguire, who i though was excellent as spidey. Most of the cast were good, a few exception. kirsten dunst wouldn't have been first choice for MJ and the dude that played venom was terrible.

JK simmons was great as was alfred molina as doc ock and wassis face as sandman.
The previous spidey films weren't perfect but the first two were very good and the third was clearly derailed by studio interference.

Easily the best thing about the previous movies. They could have taken Spiderman out of the next movie and made it all about Jameson being a cheap bastard and I would have loved it.

Just like X-men 3, I'd like to pretend Spidey 3 doesn't exist. And yeah, Venom was an afterthought in S3. A terrible afterthought.

Dunst as MJ is fine for me, because I like the fact that she looks like a homely girl-next-door rather than a supermodel.

I'm sorry but the idea of a tall buxom redheaded supermodel falling in love with a poor nerdy photographer with glasses… breaks my suspension of disbelief. Crawling up walls, ok. Shoot webs, ok. Million-dollar-designer-costume made by a poor college student, ok.

But redheaded supermodel falling in love with Peter Parker? Shyeah right.

Ofc, to his credit he has spidey powers. Maybe he shot some secret spidey pheromones in her drink when her back was turned.

I really think you're just seeing what you want to see now. Also you're not much to talk on other people's fashion choices, considering you wear form-fitting pants and worm hats all the time.
