I know your proberly thinking MS Paint speach bubble's, but I mean the one's that are closly faint, like you can just see what the bubble is covering over.
I tried that advice on DD with that kirby thing dude, but I didn't understand it, I just downloaded Paint.net

You can adjust the opacity level to make them transparent. I believe most programs have an Opacity on each layer, just change it for that layer after you've created the bubbles. If you want to make the text see-through too, just change their opacity too.

He's using mspaint. As far as I know, paint can't do that.

Try using a different FOSS program for speech bubbles, such as the GIMP or Paint.Net.
Although, Inkscape is probably the best option as scalable bubbles are easier to work with.

(Some pics that will hopefully be a lil helpful)
1. Create a new layer to make the speech bubbles on.
2. Make the speech bubbles following the tutorials on DD.
3. Click on the Layer Properties (in the layer window it looks like a hand pointing at a paper).
4. Lower the Opacity and click OK.

I'll try downloading paint.net sometime this week to make a quick tutorial.
