I say show it, gives a little flavor and spunk for your portfolio.

Your art's awesome. Showing it wouldn't hurt the least bit.

As someone who once was in the same boat as you, here's some advice:

When piecing together a portfolio, always have lots of different types of work. The school will be more interested in someone who is talented in a broad range of styles rather than just a single one.

BUT, at the same time, it is always good to show you have a specialty. Whatever style you believe you are better with, add a few extra. It shows them you are passionate about a certain style, and they like passionate artists. Passionate artists = Good artists.

Don't brag too much, and don't be too down on your art either (even though we all are). Don't make excuses for any “flaws” they find, and if they do, tell them “I never noticed that! Thank you! This is EXACTLY the reason I wanted to come to your school, to better myself as an artist.”

All in all, you'll be fine.

:D

jolly good, jolly good. :D as for the different types of work deal, i'm afraid i don't have much in the types of media. i have a painting, a photo collage, and a large pencil sketch. but i do have some realistic work and a lot of different styles in there. but most of my stuff is digital now.

What if it's for a digital arts course? Wouldn't that be exactly what they would want to see?

uh.. but youre misunderstanding. its art thats drawn entirely on the computer, about getting a degree where you draw things almost entirely on the computer. of course they would like it. why wouldnt they?

I'd say you're right. You never know, though. I had one project where I had to turn in all the paperwork in several different ways, like on DVD, I had to mail it and also had to turn in some hard copy…sometimes school can't make up it's mind.

Then, after I turned it in, three months later they magically lost everything so I had to do it again. But that's something best left in the rant thread.

well, i had everything i needed, so i think they were impressed. he liked that i had pictures to show, as well. but my mom had a retard moment and said “she's getting lazy in her senior year” to which i almost spazzed out and had to correct her. i mean, what college wants a slacker?! if i don't get in, it could be from that dumb comment of hers.

I hate it when parents do that. I always made it a case that I went into the meeting by myself if possible, 'cuz my mom would just embarras me…

i swear, my mom delights in making me suffer. whenever talking to someone who has authority over me, she can't resist the temptation to demean me in front of them.

My mom does that too. And the worst part is that she doesn't mean to. She just does. It's annoying.

Why was your mom even there? She's not going to be in class with you, is she?

1. i needed a ride, plus this college is 1.5 hours away
2. we needed to talk about financing and housing
3. she wants to know what i'm getting myself into
4. unfortunately, since she slept through my childhood, i had to raise myself, and i have very little understanding of how the world works. in other words, i need her to guide me.

but it doesn't erase the fact that with her irritating banter she damaged my chances of getting into that college. it makes me so freaking nervous, as if i wasn't enough so already. D:

Its less embarrassing for a girl to be in that situation than it is for a guy.

I've been in a MORE EMBARRASSING situation that involved mommy coming to school and talking to the principal yadda yadda because of a fight I had with another guy (which I lost… or kinda like a ‘draw’ lol)

God that was embarrassing. THE WHOLE FUCKING SCHOOL saw it. You know what, I'd rather lose with dignity than have mama come to school to meddle in it.

It was embarrassing as hell because the guy I fought was smaller than me and still managed to do damage even if I had the strength and size advantage.

I was 15 years old when that happened. Though in the Philippines, if you're 15, its the equivalent of being 19 in the Western world. To comprehend it much more easier, think of it like your parents making those policing calls to you when you're in a party or when youre f–king your bf/gf. :(

It is more understandable if gals still have their mommy or daddy tagging along with them. Society is more tolerant of females showing weakness (dependence on parents at a supposedly ‘adult’ age IS weakness) than of males doing the same thing. :( (lmao at ‘gender equality’.)

However, I doubt it if it affected your college application. Art Institute… There's this voice in the back of my head telling me that they're just after your money just like CDI college.

NOW UPDATING!!!
