I read loads of ‘What do you think of this idea?’ threads (not just on DD) and I have lumped my fave 3 together and this idea came up is it sort of stealing someone else's comic - but it sounds really good and I don't know who they are or how to get in contact with them and ask so is it alright for me to do this?

Depends on how much like the original idea it is. People are ripping things off left right and centre everyday. I would hardly call anything I do original, I see things and think they are cool and they often give me inspiration. More often it's a case of, that's pretty cool but what if they did THIS? and that is often the starting point for something.

Work the idea over, see where you can take the story and most likely it will develop into something more your own.

I think that in this day and age, with respect to comics/webcomics nothing is original anymore. It's in the matter of telling the story/presenting it to the audience that makes it sort of ‘original’ esp. if you put in some of your personal touches/originality.

It doesnt justify ripping off ideas verbatim from everybody though, and yeah, like Genejoke said, take them as inspirations or spring boards for your own version, dont copy.
