Say… I'm liking the look of that 13th spot.

Sign me up.

Also @Asmun:
The titles are kinda like Xbox achievements. Occasionally we come up with silly things to name each other, that are quasi-related to things we've done in the game. They don't really do anything, apart from granting us bragging rights.

The Game Master.

Then where the hell do my achievements keep going?
Not signing up. Just dropping by. Goodluck with he GMing.

Shiny new comic.

watched pots don't boil… or they'll boil so slowly you can feel time slowing around you; mocking you.

you'll be noticed for some random uncommon achievement eventually. took me a good few games to be titled and i haven't gotten another since (but i loves my minister of cuteness-ness)

A million extreme pardons I beg of ye, but would anyone here mind linking me to some kind of explanation? I've always wanted to play a Mafia game, but every time I check it out, I get more and more confused. @n@

Hmm. I really think I need to update the mafia explanation…and send it to the quack cast…

In lieu of this long awaited information. This is what Black Kitty posted when she first introduced the game here two years ago.

Black_Kitty
So heylo there~ Some of you may wonder who I am. I am the long lost princess from Caturnia and I have come back, like a prodigal son, to the land of ducks to spread the quacking news of Mafia!

(Alternatively I could be that admin that has been lurking around but that's just not exciting enough really.)

One of the things I've been doing outside of DrunkDuck is playing a forum version of a game called Mafia. Basically you have a group of players and they are secretly given roles. Some will be townie based roles while others will be mafia based roles. The number of mafias will always be less than the number of townies at the start of the game. Basically if you are a townie your objective is to kill all mafias. If you are a mafia your objective is to either kill all townies or reduce the number to equal or less than mafia numbers.

The game is divided into two cycles: day and night. During the day the town will call for a lynch and everyone votes for who they wish to lynch. During the night those with night abilities will send in their actions which is published by the next day cycle with clues pointing to those responsible. The town will then discuss and put up another person to lynch. And the cycle goes on~

The game is really a social and clue game. You can either try to solve the clues presented or network with people (or both.) It's pretty fun and where I played it, it brought me closer to the community. There's some mafiaing inbetween but a lot of good natured bantering.

So I figure I'll bring it here. If there's enough people interested (let's say…20?) I wouldn't mind hosting a game. It requires semi-active participation though but it's not that demanding. If you're interested just post and say you are and I will put your name down.

The basics are pretty much what Niccea said. To elaborate, there are typically three teams in a standard Mafia game:

Townies-whoever's left after the other two teams are filled

Mafia-4 to 5

Serial killer-1 to 2

Each one is tying to kill the other two. Roles tend look like this:

Elected:
-Mayor (runs the town and declares double lynches)
-Pardoner (Pardons people)

Townie:
-Vigilante (kills once a night)
-Paramedics (protects a person from one attack a night)
-Detective (Has abilities that help him gather clues as to who is who)
-Paranoid (kills the first person to come in contact with him each night whether the protect or kill)
-Secret Keeper (Knows the role of another pro-town player)

Mafia:
-Godfather (runs the mafia, can cancel a lynch or double lynch once)
-Mad Hatter (places and triggers bombs, if killed all bombs in circulation go off)
-Hit men (kills once a night)

Serial Killer:
-Serial Killer (kills once a night)

Every action leaves clues behind that are based off of profiles, comics and several other aspects about the players' online persona. Players solve these clues to figure out who they need to kill. The mafia and the serial killer(s) have the advantage because they know who is on their team unlike the townies.

Most Game Masters run using a themed game where the roles just have different names to suit the theme. Some Game Masters mod the game, combining, adding, and removing roles. And a few Game Masters run games where the mechanics have changed.

This game is the modded variety. Heavily modded actually. In every other game of Mafia here there's only been one goal, kill the other two teams. This game has a primary goal: kill the other teams, and a secondary goal: capture the downed pilot. The interaction between the teams is also more complex. the townies are trying to kill everyone on the other two teams, except the downed pilot and the black marketeer. Same for the serial killer. The mafia (the rebel cell) wants to kill everyone else except the downed pilot.

Hopefully, I've helped lessen your confusion and haven't scared you away with my mega post. Most of the roles are pretty self explanatory, and I hope you decide to join, because honestly the best way to learn is to jump right in!

Yeah. I'm working on making a “Niccea Explains it All” mafia podcast to help clear up things.

Topics:

- The “biggest” secret of mafia We really don't know what is going on more than anyone else
- How to sign up for mafia
- Mafia titles
- Where to find the game
- Role basics
- Playing the game

Least that is what I have in the script right now

I could, but that's moot point now. My computer started acting funny. I took it to Best Buy to get it looked at and the guy said that it looks like hard drive failure was imminent. If nothing's wrong I get it back by sunday. If they need to fix it, it'll take longer, up to two weeks.

If I'm really unlucky, I gotta get a new laptop.

Besides that, I still don't know if you want to play and I would really rather not cut any roles if I don't have to.

But, like I said, it's moot point since the only computer access I have is to the one's in the lab and time anyone let's me have on their machines, which is not so good for running a mafia game. (here's hoping that I get my computer back soon) In the event that it's something serious and it's going to take more than a week to get my computer back, is there a contingency plan?

A substitute GM can be used if anyone is willing to. I wouldn't want to scrap this and have to go through sign ups all over again. Technically it should be the runner up from the GM election really.

okay then I'll get that fixed.

EDIT: And Niccea, that'll work. All the runner up needs to do is grab the list in the second post and let everyone know what happened.
