I was wondering as I sat in the bus: “What motivates us”? What actually makes you want to work on your stuff? For me, it's that final result at the end and showing to my frieds. What about you guys?

This is going to sound really… really… weird.

I usually have varying motivation to do anything. I have a horrible case of A.D.D. so the thing that motivates me is constant distractions. Depending on what the distraction was, it ends up having a direct effect on hos much work I'm doing at the time.

So I start making comics early, turn on a messenger, and let people's conversations randomize my thoughts… and I get a lot done in small intervals throughout the course of the day.

I get more motivated when i see that people are enjoying my work (Hint).

Also when i know that something good is going to come from it, like my own comic i've managed to make $20 on google ads, and my DD comic i'm just having fun making!

wierdly enough, nowadays the comic is actually what motivates me to do the comic. You can't tell from my DD site because I only have the first few strips up, but over the years of working on the comic I've created this whole little universe, the characters are all their own people. the comic really reflects how these characters live. If I dont do it, they don't live, and I know that tomorrow night they have a party to go to, or they have a paper due monday that they think they did really well on. and if I don't work on the comic, they'll never get to turn it in.

The thought that, once I finish this story, I can move on to another one. Really, I feel like I have all this crap in my head I need to get out, so comics does that for me.

sad to say, but it's people's comments that motivate me.

thats not a *bad* reason, I mean we all love comments, its good to know other people appreciate your creation. I imagine it's like someone telling you your baby is cute. you're all like “thank you, I made it.” It just shouldn't be your ONLY reason for stripping

It's kind of like a personal avenue into oneself. I draw because it's a pleasing mental exercise of making a story featuring characters that reflect different aspects of my personality.

I have a few things motivating me. Probably my biggest motivation is the desire to entertain. For as long as I can remember that has always been my greatest passion in life. Of course, my methods have changed considerably since my childhood.

Today, my major interests lie in animation, though. Comics are a great way for meto express myself when I don't have the time or money to make animation. They also keep me working. The more I create, the better I get as an artist. While I admit I still show room for improvement, my artwork has gotten much better over the last five years. Thinking of how much better it will get in the next five years keeps me going.

I also hate to see stories go unfinished. Everthing I'm working on now will hopefully see completion someday.

My biggest motivation is just to get these stories onto paper, that way I won't forget them, and maybe someone else will enjoy them.

I draw a helluv a lot more now that I have a webcomic than I used to…and most of it isn't even comics. Some of them are just random things I draw in reaction to something on the DD forums so um, I'd say I do the webcomic thing for..actually, I don't know. kicks and giggles.

Let's see…

I am motivated by…

Hmm…

I don't know anymore. I have a lot of bullshit in my homelife so much of my work is to function as a sort of escape mechanism. I just want to forget my dysfunctional family for a while when I make anything. Of course, I act pretty much the same in RL as I do on here (Yes, I even swear just as much in RL as on here).

Back when was in school, I was drawing my comic because girls liked it and it gave me something to do in my free time. Now, I'm doing it having a regular art project is an excellent way to develop my style and skill.

Girl: “OMG thats soooo good can you draw me?”
Me: “Only if you're topless, it's company policy”
Girl: “Meh forget it then”

nothing there is not a single thing that modivates me to draw and it continues to decline now sims on the other hand just seeing them walk around in the game and looking good is all the motivation i need to make one.

to me my art is a blatent dissapointment, i have been drawing all my life and i haven't improved enough to make myself happy, and when others go against my oppinion, i get mean and forfit. i have no idea why i'm like this and i'm the one who should.

videos ahh something i can be proud of and i know i'm good at, that's all the motivation i need for them.

stories an idea that comes every so often.

I just went on your site, cause I have never read your comic, and I was interested. So…has anyone ever actually bought the 400 dollar shirt?

Motivation…I'm motivated by my want/need to get better. Since starting my comics my art has gotten a lot better. Hasn't it? I think so. And now, I know my way around photoshop really well. Which is pretty helpful.

heheh!

I get motivated when I know there are people reading my comic and enjoys it. xD… I also get motivated to tell the story right. I also want to get better too since I self learn everything and I'm hoping to get better through people's comments and critiques.
