Nothing specific. I just play whatever my favourite (and/or latest) album happens to be at the time. Currently playing “Show Your Bones” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs a lot.

That or one of Bowie's old albums. Can't beat Bowie for getting the creative juices flowing!

I generally prefer more hyperactive music (Naked City, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas), but for drawing I need something less distracting, so I tend to gravitate towards more straightforward stuff. Movie soundtracks work well too, of course. Most of the time I just have the TV on these days, though.

Stuff from Galbadia Hotel.

Good site.

While I normally listen to stuff that connects in some manner to Konami music games, I tend to draw in silence.
That's “Dr. BlkKnight” to all of you.

I have the odd tendency to listen to the song “A Century of Fakers” on repeat for hours as I do my comic.
Or elliott smith music, actually. anything super-depressing is fair game. I find that rap really impedes the artistic process (unless it's kanye west.) and classical music makes me hungry so it's not good either (don't want to get food on my paper!! lol!!)

My ideas mostly hit me in the shower. (White noise?) When I draw, I turn my TV to old (or old-ish) sitcoms. TV Land, Nick@Nite, Lifetime (but not original programming), etc.

i usually start off drawing with music that fits the mood of the peice. sometimes if a song strikes me as especially good, i'll stick it on repeat. miracle examples:

the ghost of you, sleep, helena,or disenchanted by my chemical romance
god of wine or motorcycle drive by - third eye blind
lots and lots of nine inch nails
staind

and other emo stuff.
(thats not all i listen to though) :3

sometimes if i'm not comicing a song will inspire a drawing on its own too :D
other than that, this comment is pointless.

I like to set up themed music lists on projectplaylist and work on my comics whilst listening to that. Other than that you can't beat a good bit of silence :)

I can't live or create without my iTunes! iTunes Radio, podcasts, music files - the works. The best thing since sliced bread. I've got satellite radio at the house, but what do I listen to at home? iTunes.

Awesome guys! People believe i'm lying when i say i listen to conan music, but i do! It's just kinds of pumps me up and many idea runs thru my head while i'm about to write or draw. I'm not all the way square though, i listen to music of the past like jazz and stuff!

Nine Horses
Guitar Vader
etc.

Sad/Disgruntled-

Anything loud, exciting and (ideally) shouty. I'm listening to a lot of Clutch and Disturbed at the moment. (rawk) I sometimes wonder what people would think if they saw me painting my nice, friendly, colourful paintings, while singing along (loudly) to Enemy. XD It's a bit of a nonsequitor.

Mind you, I have a lot of weird crap in my itunes, from chilled Manu Chao to the Star Wars Imperial March (yay sith!), from happy jrock Shonen Knife to obscure cross-dressing shouty Croatian band Let 3 (who are awesome, btw), and best of all, cheerful Korean ska (yay for Witches!). I guess it depends what mood I'm in.

Most inspiring/working music at the moment is anything I can stick on a loop and listen to for at least an hour. I'm very boring like that - but if music sets a mood, I need that mood to remain constant. :P And Air's Talisman is very good for scenery painting, btw. Not sure why.

All these nonsense songs make me feel motivated to draw. I dont care if its about gengstablinganhoes… or people trying to imitate animals… (most often its panthers, dogs, or apes. though I heard one system of a down song that imitates a chicken while inserting ‘fuck the system’ lol!)

Hahahaha! This is half the reason I like Clutch so much - their lyrics are so obscure… not exactly nonsense, more like deranged poetry. I've never heard a band with weirder lyrics. :D

“Shadow of the New Praetorian / Tipping Cows in fields Elysian / Saturnalia for all you have / The seven habits of the highly infected calf

Swan diving off the tongues of crippled giants / International Business Machine / Choking on bits of fallen bread crumbs / Oh, this burning beard, I have come undone / It's just as I've feared. I have, I have come undone.” - Burning Beard

I must paint the band tipping cows in fields Elysian some day. That'd be an awesome painting, and I've meant to for ages, just never got around to it. :D

Heavy metal, progressive rock, and ambient music. Occasionally, some Japanese-themed music, too. It's all good.

The only time I think specifically about working to a certain type of music is when I really need to buckle down and finish something. I stick to things like the Amadeus soundtrack for that (because Mozart and choir boys rock).

Otherwise I stick to whatever playlist I'm listening to death at the moment (I make a new one every few days once I'm sick of the hundred-odd tracks of the last one). The current list features Elvis Presley, Elvis Costello, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Richard Thompson, Dragonforce, Porcupine Tree, Silversun Pickups, Pearl Jam, the Pogues…

Things that don't match.

If you're seriously looking for something specific, though, I highly recommend the Into the Wild soundtrack. I snagged it the other day and it is orgasmic.

Tom Waits. Even though it sometimes makes me want to radically change the content of the picture to fit the music - his songs are incredibly inspiring.
The Continued Misadventures of Bonebird - a poor bird's quest for the ever-elusive and delicious apples.

I tend to just put my iTunes on shuffle and just listen to whatever comes on, but lately I've been listening to some mixes by underground DJs whilst doodling. I'm down with those hour long sets that mash a bunch of different jams into one cohesive bond of excellent. Yeah, that stuff. They often span various genres of music and let me draw without halting every 3 or so minutes to switch tracks. There is the occasional wack track in every mix, but most of them are pretty solid. DJs of particular interest to me at the moment are DJ's Riko, Wood, Socool, Indica Jones, P, Enki, Pablo, Ferrari and Yoda. DJ's Wood, Soo and Socool are all local, so it's cool to take in some local talent.

Same. I'm usually listening to Dr. Dre and the like, but when I'm trying to just buckle down and work on art for long periods, I switch over to Joshua Bell and BB King and more low-key stuff. Otherwise I constantly distract myself by going online, playing games, etc. It sucks.

The Serenity soundtrack is a big one for me these days. Sometimes I don't like listening to anything when I draw though. I get into a drawing groove per se, and the music sometimes clashes with that.

Anyone else have that, or am I just a freak? :P
