Curious though. What do you guys listen to? Don't say 'Everything cept country and rap.“ thats annoying. Really, what cds do you like? what type of rock music do you listen to if you like ”everything cept rap and country.“?

I listen to SkitzoXcore, which is a joke a friend of mine teases me with. She says when I drive in the car playing mix cds, that its like people keep changing the radio station. Like 100 different people are fighting over the controls. I love underground horror influenced or political hip hop. Mainstream alt rock like Alanis or Dave Mathews. 80s RNB like Prince and Sade, old, old old country like George Jones and the late Johnny Cash. I even like some ”punk“: MSI, Suicidal Tendencies. Some ”metal“: Kittie(I hate death and all that crap. The most I can muster is ”nu metal." sorry). Industrial: My life with the thrill kill kult. and rap/rock: Insane Clown Posse. Lets not forget the trip hop: Tricky/Massive Attack, Portishead, Daughter Darling, etc, and yes even some gangsta rap: tech n9ne.

whew. You?

Stuff like Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin, Journey, Def Leppard, Rush, or Van Halen. I mostly like classic rock, before guitar solos were replaced by angsty emo lyrics. I've also been listening to DragonForce lately, because they are fucking crazy.
It's a comic!

moved to media discussion OH WAIT I'm not a moderator or administrator.

I listen mostly to industrial/technoy stuff like Rammstein, Marylin Manson, or Nine Inch Nails. I like catchy songs that I can sing with or songs that have funny origins. Like I am the walrus by the beetles. “let the fuckers figure this one out”, or maybe a more infamous tune like “helter skelter”.

I've had the same music for around ten years now. I got some eminem, limp bizkit, dmx, and other stuff from around 98-00 that I liked, I just sort of said “eh, this is enough music.”

I'm just not big on music. I guess thats why I can't figure out My Humps.

I dunno, really. I guess most of what I listen to would be classified as alternative/rock, but I don't pay much attention to genres. I just like the sounds of things.

Uh, some of the bands that scroll through my playlist with some regularity are A Perfect Circle, Revis, Rammstein, Muse, FatBoy Slim, Live, Metallica, The Offspring, Dir en Grey, Malice Mizer, Raphael, and a lot of random 80s music. Because I like random 80s music.

I vary up what I listen to and I randomize between my selections on Pandora.com and Yahoo Launchcast, which are essentially compilations of my music choices. I listen to Contemporary Christian, Classical Guitar/Flamenco, Dance/Trance, Smooth Jazz and a few realms in-between.

Music is extremely helpful when I draw. It's always been that way. When I'm working, though, I can't listen to music, so I'll have it in my head. :)

I like a few things. Radio Head's “Kid A” is my favorite album followed by “Danse Macabre” by The Faint then “Plans” by Death Cab for Cutie.

I too love MSI but only “Frankenstein Girls…”, DragonForce as well, Victory at Sea is one of my favorite bands, Head Automatica, Architecture in Helsinki is phenomenal, Freezepop, and while we are on the subject of smoking hot female leads Morning Wood, Hot Hot Heat, Ok Go, Little Barrie, Mew, Mars Volta, Mates of State, Stars, The Temptations, Spoon, and Thunderbirds are Now are the most fun you will have with angular music ever.

Those are the bands I really love. Now cherish them. Start cherishing dammit!
Everybody wants that fold of matches to reinflate their confidence.

I can't actually answer this, because I don't have hours on end to sit here listing bands. Instead, click this link to see my Rate Your Music profile and see for yourself.

Here is a new question for you.

Does anybody try to find new bands to listen to based on the project they are working on?

Example: I have an idea involving Polyhymnia so I downloaded a lot of hymns from various religions. I also have Ogre which is based on an armenian, so i downloaded armenian music, and a few muslim songs because there are muslims in my story also.

This is a more interesting question since there are about ten threads floating around that have the same content as this one… Although I don't think I heard from any of these people's choices before, and it's nice to know them :)

Yes Robert, I do this. When I was doing the “party” stage of Pinky TA I listened to a lot of Gershwin, some old Fred Astair numbers, Bernstein, Helen Kane etc. When things were getting a bit more mechanical and violent I listed to Rammstein and Laibach, then when the action was more in the desert I listed to the music of Sheikh Al Tuni, Tinariwen, and various other North African groups… It's great for getting the “feel” of the thing.

Glad I could offer something different then.

Sounds rad. I work for a mail order company and we sell cds for people I've never heard of. I should probably buy them and listen and see what comes out of me. I tend to write horror stories though so gershwin might not work. heh.

I think my music really influences what I'm drawing at the moment. Even stuff that's just playing through my head at the time. It usually happens when I'm just sketching for fun and don't have a certain image in my head.

For example one time I had Avenged Sevenfold stuck in my head so I drew an guitarist with angel wings trashing on a guitar. Other times it's not so literal as someone actually playing the song though, lol.

I never listen to music which “fits” with what I'm drawing. That makes absolutely no sense to me. I listen to what I listen to no matter what scene is drawn.

The only thing which changes are the pictorial and video references which I have at hand for the scene I'm drawing. Listening to Arabian music is not going to help me draw a better desert; having a Nature documentary on deserts playing on my Windows Media Player does help me draw a better desert.

I don't draw, I write, so music helps me build a sense of mood and identity.

I'm all about prog music/bands:

-early genesis (before becoming a pop band in the 80's)
-yes
-pink floyd
-the who
-queen (you MUST listen to “Queen 2” if you ever liked Queen)

I usually listen to “stellar-attraction” or “aural moon” online radios
