I just noticed this as well. Left my browser on DD for awhile, came back and now a Trojan is on my computer. Never got a virus from DD before now. Hate to say that I'm getting ready to loss it; it's a pretty nasty virus. =_=

As far as I know, DD can not infect your computer with a virus. You'd have to click some OK box and let install first, unless you don't have your OS up to date and the latest versions of your browsers and flash etc.
-You really should always keep up with updates-

I'm going to e-mail the programmer and the ad guy anyway, but it would really, REALLY HELP if you could tell me what kind of virus, what error message came up, what ads were n DD at the time, anything you can remember, because without that detail, there's almost nothing we can do.
We're basically pissing in the wind. … (us DD staff)

I thank you for the reports, but without the detail what happens is I report that stuff and they just can't do too much about it. Without the detail, they've no idea where to start.
Every computer setup is unique and not all of us are even able to have the same problems or see the same issues as everyone else.
-For myself I almost never see any ads on this site, let alone viruses, and the upload system works fine for me. All our systems handle things differently.

So please help us out a little more when reporting issues
Thanks for your time and patience. :)

I've assessed the problem as much as I can, and here's what I'm getting.

Everything on my computer is updated, so that isn't the issue. And I didn't click a thing to load any virus (my dad works in IT, I know better than that, lol). I simply had my computer on my stats page and left my computer for a time. And, according to my Norton antivirus history, around the time I was gone I got a series of virus FROM my DD stats page (I would show you a screen cap of my Norton history, and all the viruses that came from DD, but I can't do that at the moment because the viruses hav disabled almost everything on my computer, including the Internet. I'm painstakingly typing this on my iPod touch =_=).

So all in all, yes, DD has viruses. Later if you'd like I can post the names of the suspect files. But here are the symptoms:
-that nasty AV “antivirus progam” shows up, and shuts down Norton's files and Window's files
-Viagra and porn sites repeatedly pop up, but I cannot access the Internet
-add/remove program is disabled

let me repeat, I did not click anything suspect and these viruses are 100 percent from DD, so I think it's something DD needs to really look into because even though not everyone is getting viruses like me, I think that's what's crushing the system. :/

Hrm. Last week or so, I was getting some bizarre pop-ups from Drunkduck all of the sudden which were very small, and said something to the effect of ‘Please don’t close… survey'. I shut it down anyway.

Haven't seen it this week, though.

“You tell yourself to just
enjoy the process,” he added. “That whether you succeed or fail, win or
lose, it will be fine. You pretend to be Zen. You adopt detachment, and
ironic humor, while secretly praying for a miracle.”

I usually pre-upload, and that has continued to go smoothly, no difference at all.

However, today, I tried to upload a page mid-day to update immediately. The page shows up but the update doesn't register in “my favorites” nor doe it show up under the recently updated on the front page. I deleted it and set it to update tomorrow instead. We'll see if that works.

I use Firefox 3.6.4 and Windows XP.

That is extremely weird.
I reported the issue to the programmer last night.

There may be a virus on the sever. Virus activity could explain the bloat on our image server that causes us to run out of memory every few days at the moment, I've come across a similar issue before with my own work website. -but even there it was simple to avoid viruses actually getting on your own machine.

Anyway, I've reported the possibility of that to the programmer as well. Still waiting to hear back.

I came back to see if this new company could fix all the uploading issues.

As it turns out, it was I who was the fool.

That's one way to get people to take your concerns seriously, Lefarce. If it was me running this place, your complaint'd go to the back of the queue for that.

Any idea when these problems might be fixed, ozone? I just bought a new computer so I don't really want to risk any viruses…I'll probably have to leave for a while until someone sorts that out. :(

Edit: Isn't it a bit ridiculous that wowio has caused all these problems and yet we haven't heard a word from them? They've just sent poor ozoneocean out to deal with the angry mob. Way to be hands-on, wowio!

I doubt you'd get any viruses.

I can't explain the problem Nicotine is having, but I haven't experienced even a twinge in that respect. -I check the site frequently on three different PCs here. two XP machines running AVG and one Vista machine running Norton. No viruses detected, and no problems with the comps, unexplained or otherwise.

I have no info from our programmer on progress. Last time I talked to him was last night when we had a return of the image bug. No info on anything outside of the bug.

My anti-spyware program didn't like ads.addynamix.com and blocked it, if that helps.

I think trouble struck when the virus disabled my Norton, but, becaus Norton is very fast with their updates, Im sure they've already come up with a patch for the particular virus I got, so I don't know if anyone would get it; I think I was just unlucky, plus I was idle on the site for awhile. I'm already in the process of redoing my computer, so I can no longer give you a list of the bad programs loaded on my PC.

I dunno, I appreciate your help ozone, must be a headache for you ^^;. Honestly, I'd like to see everything fixed becaus I love this site and I really, really don't wanna move. But I am paranoid after yesterday. I think most issues are coming from the suspect ads.

Ok I'm having problems with uploading in Chrome and setting the live date in Firefox
Chrome- from comic pages, I can load the add pages page, but the add page button doesn't do anything. I think it might be a scripting error.

Firefox- I can add pages and set the date, but only in the current month. I have to type in the date to set the live date to a different month. The calender switches after I finish typing the year.

below is all of the version information. The pic should provide a link to the larger version, but here's a link just in case.

Firefox has the Web developers tool bar installed Version 1.1.8

And now we start to see the benefits of having your comic constantly stuck in the “This Just In” list. Pewfell has now entered the top 10 list as well. Not that it's a particularly bad comic and that it doesn't belong there to begin with, mind you. However, there's no denying that his current success is largely thanks to the fact that his comic's been constantly on display on the frontpage now and if we follow up with the point that he has over 500 pages, it's easy to conclude that he doesn't need that many readers, playing catch up, for his page view counter to go through the roof.

Congrats chuckwheel, you lucky bastard. May the error gods smile favorably upon us one day, like they've now done to you.
Those were my two cents.

Also count in his daily updates, but more importantly, a comic thumbnail with boobs in it!!

Alright, so my pages upload and everything but i get kicked off my account everytime, and my comic doesn't appear in the ‘this just in’ list. I've noticed that Pewfell is always, always, there(not trying to diss on it or anything, promise). Is the getting kicked off and comic not appearing (to be advertised that it even exists) something that can be fixed by getting a different internet program?

VegaX
Also count in his daily updates,
That's actually what I reckon is causing him to stay continuously in the “This just in” list. As you can tell, he gradually moves down the list over time but never drops off it. It appears that a very limited amount of comics are still being recognized by whatever places freshly updated comics into that list. However, there are so few comics that the list updater seems to recognize, that not enough of them update per day to clear out the entire list over the day. Since Pewfell happens to be updated on a daily bases, it always bumps back to the top before it drops out.

I'm not saying his comic is bad. It looks pretty dam entertaining, in fact (the little I've looked at, at least). Still, you have to agree that he's very lucky to being able to take such a huge advantage of the current bug. It's like being featured all over again (he was featured at one point, right? (if not, then it would be hilarious to feature him now and see him on three spots on the front page (four if Quail's Random decides to spot him as well))).
VegaX
but more importantly, a comic thumbnail with boobs in it!!
Well of course! It's the most important part.
Those were my two cents.

Things have been very busy at Wowio recently. They've just finished a very big office move and are still catching up on all the things they have to do, as well as all the e-mails I've been sending them about the problems.

same info as above, but now I can't update in Firefox either. I can get to the upload page, set the the live date, add a description and set the title, but when I click the upload button, the page never appears on my Comicpages for that comic.
Before that I also had a problem with them system chunking out anything after the first URL in a URL tag. Looked like this:
eaten comment example

Everthing after that is gone. I could retype it using the edit button and everything would work fine. It's just rather annoying, especially when you have five links in the comments and have to hunt them down again.

EDIT: I just noticed that My comic is stuck up there in the “This Just In” section. Not that I'm complaining or anything, but A ) my art is pretty shoddy on that piece of work, and B )I don't have as many pages as Pewfell.

Try it again and let me know if you're still having the same error. We were tinkering with the upload system right around the time you posted this.

I'm personally using Chrome and experiencing none of the issues you listed. What extensions do you have installed on Chrome?

I had ie8 and the lastest java and all that loads is this…

I've since done a factory restore thinking it was my end. (It wasnt)
I still have the same problem.
Why did they have to take away the old upload system? That one at lest worked. This system is very user un-friendly
