I'm not usually all for watching Academy award-winning films, since I tend to find them overhyped, but as this was an indie irish film, I decided to give it a chance. And boy am I glad I did.

Once (2006) stars guitarist/singer Glen Hansard and pianist/singer Marketa Iglova as two talented musicians living out regular lives in the middle of Ireland. When the two encounter each other one day, they quickly become acquainted, and learn about each of their skills musically. Soon enough, the two decide to take their talents further in the business.

The film truly shines in its score. It's not necessarily a musical in genre, but more of a romantic film with sprawled out duets. The cinematography is truly indie, and the characters, whom remain nameless throughout the film, feel very real and down to earth, both of which gives the movie a sense of homeliness.

Once has a very long list of award winnings and nominations (see here).

I truly loved the movie, and immediately purchased the soundtrack afterwards. If you've seen it, tell us what you thought. And if you haven't, then get to it ^_^

I haven't seen it yet, but I really want to. It has a beautiful soundtrack, for sure.

I had to sit in the hospital room for 28 hours while my husband was recovering from surgery and I watched VH1 the entire time. I swear they played that damn “Falling Slowly” song at least every thirty minutes. It got really old really fast.

Yeah, I could see how it could get annoying. But if the first time you hear it is during the movie, then it's quite amazing.
