I really liked the movie too. I think the ending sorta wrapped things up nicely in way that gives you the impression that life goes on for the characters for better or worst.

It was a bit long, but I didn't notice too much with all the stuff going on. It wasn't like the ‘Two Towers’ Where you butt falls asleep several times during the three hours your watching the movie.

And I don't think I would have called that even a ‘near rape scene.’ Seemed more like the guy was just getting too fresh with Swann than anything else.

Does it make sense to have Chow Yun-Fat in the movie, and he DOESN'T do any martial arts at all?!

Now that I think about it….

No. Not at all.

I really liked the second one. I thought the Davey Jones character and crew were excellent. Norrington redeems himself, everyone gets safe, except Jack, of course. I was eagerly awaiting the third one because Barbossa was going to be back. I was really hoping for a out and out Barbossa vs. Davey Jones fight! I was even looking forward to the Keith Richards part!

This one didn't amaze me like the first 2 movies. Norrington goes back to being a prick, Keith Richards is hardly in the movie and it's really not explained well, Barbossa vs. Davey Jones never happens, as a mater of fact, Jones is a complete wussy in the movie.

It wrapped things up okay, and the effects were great mind you, but it was mildly dissapointing. The climax never really came along. There wasn't a great, big, ending which is what it really needed. And the fountain of youth thing at the end… meh. they should have just left the franchise at 3 movies, I think. I don't know what I expected though. It's Disney.

But, like I've said before, it's part 2… of a sequel… of a movie.. that is based on an amusement park ride. Based on that, I think it was pulled together pretty decently! ;)

Heeeey… You're right!… Did he even do any cool sword fighting? I don't remember even seeing any of that.

There is going to be a new movie in 2011. Whether it's a sequel or prequel isn't known yet. Johnny will definitely be in it. Orlando wants to be in it but there's a budget issue. Keira won't be in it.

Wow…so probably no new movie with all the characters. That sucks when you think about the ending of this one in comparison to the ending of Pirates 1. Pirates 1 ended with Will and Elizabeth (I actually had to Wiki her name. I couldn't remember it.) being all happy and so forth. And Jack is Jack, escaping. THIS movie ended with Jack being Jack, but the other two main characters being seperated from one another for 10 years. And even after 10 years they will still only be able to be with each other for one day. Wow, way to put a damper on the happy there, Disney.

Fuck pirates and fuck shrek. As you can tell from the box office, Spider-man beat both films just like he beat Jesus.

Pirates lost the box office because it premiered Thursday instead of Friday midnight, so everyone went on Thursday instead of the weekend, which is what they base the rankings on. Not to mention Pirates was the last to be released of the three and many people were movied out.

Once again, the single best pirate movie ever is YELLOWBEARD

Nuh-uh. It's Muppet Treasure Island.

Agreed. Tim Curry. *puuuuuuurrrrr*

Although for me, it is very difficult to go past JD in eyeliner…

While I can see what everyone is complaining about, and I can see where their criticisms lie, I have to say…

I really liked this movie. Alot. No, it was not the greatest movie ever created, but it may well be the greatest of the Pirates films made so far. It was funny, it was action packed, and it had a rousing (if admittedly convoluted) story. Alot of people have complained about the length, at 2 hours and 50 minutes, but as old a hand at 1000+ page fantasy novels as I am this didn't phase me at all. And if you've seen any of the Lord of the Rings movies, this shouldn't bother you in the least. Even more people have complained that the movie does not take itself seriously enough, as though there were too much humor. This is just nitpicking, in my opinion. These are people who loved the first and hated the second, and thusly had to find anything at all to hate about the third. The mix of split-second quips and action was what made the first movie what it was, and it makes the third even better.

And, yes, the story can be hard to grasp at times if you're not paying attention. But, the fact is, if you're not paying attention… Why are you complaining?
It happens.

I thought Pirates 1 was “meh.” I was getting bored while watching it.
I never saw Pirates 2.
I watched Pirates 3 at full price (I debated with myself long and hard about it) because I *had to* waste some time at that point in time. I felt I would sorely regret it. I kept asking the ticket counter why Fantastic Four isn't out yet.
I didn't regret it. The movie managed to entertain me for 3 hours.
It's not an awesome movie like 300. But it's no worse than Spiderman 3 or Matrix Revolutions.
However, the movie is too bland. The storyline had no “oomph!” to it. The characters were quite predictable…

Jack = Being his comical self

Barbarossa = Disappointing for a previous boss villain returning as a main character. Has no edge.

Will and Eliz = Being their boring protagonist selves.

Davy Jones = Led around by a noose the entire movie.

Calypso = She's actually kinda cool, except I can't understand anything she's saying. I wish they subtitled her.

Lord Beckett = A nice villain marred by his mental breakdown in the final hour. C'mon, your warship has 30 cannon on each side. Who cares if they gang up on you?!?

Yeah, I really hate the way Calypso speaks. It's so jarring and annoying.

But no seriously, go see the movie, and then buy it when it comes out on DVD.

Don't listen to those who says it sucks. It doesn't.

It is worth seeing for Jack alone. Everything else is pretty great too. Especially the part with the midget firing the rocket launcher.

… Except for the lame-ass role Chow Yun Fat got.

A friend of mine made this joke about the movie.

“I loved the ending! Who wouldn't be excited at the idea of only having to see Will Turner once every ten years?”

I loved it.

Like a lot of franchise films, this is one of those things where some people find it “cool” to hate it. "Oh, you're still watching that Pirates garbage? You know they're just pandering to the lowest denominator, desperate for money. So go ahead, waste your money; I'm going to watch a real film". I know because I've often gone to movies with the mental mindset of trying to find all the flaws in a movie, or just being tired of hearing people rant about it. I'm afraid to see 300 now because I've heard so many things about it I'm just really afraid it's not going to live up to the hype.

All in all the movie was very entertaining, which is what I think they were going for. I was very happy to see Geoffrey Rush back in action as Barbossa. It certainly would have been nice to see him in a more “hands-on” role in some of the fights, he's still the man behind the ship itself, and that has to count for something. Like a lot of people I'm not going to miss Will and Elizabeth if they keep the franchise going, but I thought this had the best performances from Bloom and Nightley in the franchise.

Nice. That's a great joke.

I kind of agree with you, Inkmonkey. It's just that the fact that movies LIKE Pirates gets such a huge budget and then just don't deliver…it's annoying. I'm not saying it's not a real movie, but just that I was kind of bored while watching it. There were some good parts about it, but overall it just wasn't that exciting.

To be honest, I kinda liked Elizebeth in this movie, her character seemed a hell lot more fleshed out then in the previous movies where she might as well have been named Generic Heroine 2.1
